Does anyone have any information about the Uniforms worn by the local militias (schilderij) and locally raised units (white/blanke jagers and black/zwarte jagers) of the dutch colonies in the Americas? It's easy to find information on the regular batavian units sent there, but I'm having a hard time finding information on the local units.

Which colonies are you researching, and for what time periods? Sorry, I don't have anything for you, but I'm interested in what answers you get.

Being militia, I would guess that their civilian clothes would be what they wore, and not "uniforms ".
Brigade Games make King Philip's War civilians. I think Parkfield do too but have never seen them.

I'm interested in all dutch american colonies (Surinam and their caribbean islands) during the 1795-1804 period (:

Ah. I thought you might have been interested on Dutch settlements in New York.

The Dutch West India Company would have operated on a similar pattern as the VOC (Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie); basically an autonomous commercial organization minting their own coin, maintaining their own security forces to include garrisons and a fleet.

Uniforms would have followed a similar style (blue coat, white small clothes) as on the continent, but were manufactured by the company.

This was interesting, as looking up information for you I found what I needed for the 17th c. Portuguese in Africa.

Nice that.
Cheers,

I've found a PDF here ( link , number 297) which seems to have information about the militias Uniforms in Suriname! Does anyone knows anything about the militia Uuiforms in the Dutch Caribbean colonies?
