link Just got back from a cracking holiday in Normandy, I used two books to guide me round, Panzers in Normandy and the Holts guide to the Normandy Beaches. A review of both books and lots of photos, bit of a shock when I discovered Michael Wittmans gravestone had been stolen. Regards, Ken |

Cheers everyone for the kind comments. Yep, Ditto Tango 2 3, the parachute and para are always there, representing John Steele the paratrooper who landed in that very spot on D Day. Interesting story, he hung there for two hours pretending to be dead before he was taken prisoner. He escaped and rejoined his unit to take part in the attack on the village, he won a bronze star for his actions. He survived the war returning to the village many times before his death in 1969. Top Bloke, regards, Ken |

Panzers in Normandy Then and Now is atill a great book despite being written in the 80s . The only chapter I would now discount is that of Viller Bocage as the account as described by Dan Taylor in the "Through the Lens" series is now the more acceptable version . |

Great write up! Question for (me) the uninformed: is that Tiger's camo legit, or fiction? |
yarkshire gamer | 20 Aug 2015 10:34 a.m. PST |
Hi Darkest Star Games, The camo was done by an enthusiastic amateur who lives locally to offer some form of protection rather than historical accuracy. As I say in the post with only 6 left in the world I'm amazed it's still in the layby. It was bought by the local people years ago when a scrap dealer started cutting her up. I don't know what the current situation is regarding maintenance etc. I'm in my late 40s and was climbing over it like a kid, can't do that at Bovington ! Regards, Ken yarkshiregamer.blogspot.co.uk |

"Panzers in Normandy" along with "The British Soldier vol 2" is my most-browsed WW2 book. Your Normandy tour sounds excellent. |

I'd normally be there with my cadets at this time of year, but we've taken a year off to do other stuff! Re the camo: I found a photo of a Tiger of 102 SS Tiger Bn that seems to have the same camo (though the colours might be rearranged – it's hard to tell in black & white). I use the photo in my tour handout for when we visit Chambois and Vimoutiers. I'll dig out the photo when I get home. |
