The name gives a strong hint. The prize was having your retcon letter published in your favorite book. This was before the internet. |

Originally the "prize" was seeing your letter in print in the comics. Later Stan the Man began mailing out empty envelopes. I never won one, but one of the guys in my elementary school did. Lucky dog! link |

I used to work for a large Comic book retailer and I once found one (envelope) in a copy of Thor #225. The famous Galactus with Short on cover. |
