Much as I enjoy reading these forums, I am not a gamer.

However, I am looking for some help in testing scenarios for a vaguely documented but, arguably, celebrated minor action (brigade level) in the early French Revolutionary Wars. How would I go about approaching gamers for the period who might be interested in using the available data to see how the action might have unfolded? Would this sort of proposition be welcome? London and Southeast England would be the most convenient theatre of operations. All advice gratefully received.

There are some notables on this forum (Der Alte Fritz for example) who might give some pointers re even help with the testing.

Other than that, you could simply announce that you need playtesters to help with scenario design. There is a game design board in the "General" boards on this site. Cross-post in all the relevant boards for maximum effect.

Thank you, John.'Design' sounds very grand for what I have in mind but it may, of course, be a routine term for old hands. I suppose I imagined applicataion of one of the various sets of period rules that I read about. Are we talking about the same thing?

I think we are. Rules are just that. Guidelines to fight battles. Usually they come with army lists and a scenario or two so you can get going quickly. Scenario design (yes it is a grand term I suppose) is half the fun of the hobby. I am guessing you are trying to get into gaming at least to test out various battle scenarios? Gamers are always looking for new folks to grow the hobby. There are lots of game groups in England. I'd put up another post here that you are looking for a group in the London area. Maybe on the British gaming board?
