There has been some news on the Cold War gone Hot for WWIII but what about FOW's next release the Pacific any news. Where are they starting?

Last word we had was JP's "state of the union" message – Two books for Pacific – one US / one Japanese – the first book due out December, the second one January. Not sure which one would be first.

That being said, the "next" release is actually a Great War expansion, then CWGH, then presumably Pacific

I was told by a BF employee at Histroicon the plans are for Great War, CWGH, Pacific and then…wait for it…science fiction in 2016. That last bit came out of conversation on applying the system to different periods. I asked him about SciFi and he said with a wink and broad smile, "I can neither confirm nor deny such a release is planned in 2016." I asked, "Seriously?" and he smiled knowingly and nodded yes.

I'd like to see how BF plans to do scifi, but I don't have a company-per-side SF game right now.

I wonder what setting they're going to use? I mean, Vietnam started when the BF staff were having a few beers and watching We Were Soldiers, Cold War Gone Hot is apparently going with the Team Yankee book setting, not sure about WW1.

Can't be Slammers, but I don't know of any other company+ per side setting.

He provided no details on setting. The context of the conversation was WWII to Nam to CWGH to my question/comment, "Why not scifi? seems like a natural and a lot of people compare it to games like 40k anyway." That's when he provided his hint. And he seemed very excited about it too.

I think it will be liberating for BF. They will be free to develop force structures and unit data free from historical constraints that cause either play balance problems or complaints about lack of "historical accuracy". That freedom can result in better play balance and more interesting armies.

While I think a fictional setting would be interesting, 1) for a d6 simulation FoW does a pretty good job on the "historical" part – especially in terms of force organizations. 2) Just because you're not forced into a historical mold, doesn't mean you get play balance by default (Warhammer 40K anyone)?
