For the first time I attempted to utilize cork bark to make some modular hills with rock faces. I also used the natural shape of one piece of cork bark to make a cave piece.

These were taken in progress, I have since flocked these and they look much better with green added, but you get the idea here.

I glued chunks of cork bark in a semi-circle to a piece of mdf board. I then used a chunk of insulation foam to fill out the hill shape behind the cork bark. I then used wall filler/spackle to fill in gaps. I added a layer of sand and gravel over it and then painted it dark brown with drybrushing.

The cork bark itself is painted dark gray with a lighter gray dry brushing followed up by a final dry brushing of pure white.

The cave piece was just an inspiration that I had when I saw a natural hole that was formed in the piece of cork bark I happened to buy. I thought it looked just like a cave and so I made it into one!

I got a pretty decent-sized chunk of cork bark from my local pet store, it was MUCH cheaper than the prices being charged online. This was about $15 USD and was enough to do a couple hill pieces and the cave piece.

This technique was inspired by the Youtube Channel TheTerrainTutor, he does some amazing stuff and his video tutorials are really fun and engaging.

Those came out nice.

I have used large tree bark mulch as slate or shale hills. I will have to look into the pet store cork idea you used.
