…to Europe.

"The Air Force didn't help its long-standing argument that the A-10 Thunderbolt II attack jet should be retired when the service announced this week it would deploy more of the aircraft to Europe this fall.

The 23rd Wing at Moody Air Force Base in Georgia announced it will send 12 attack planes and crews to Central and Eastern European to bolster NATO's "Operation Atlantic Resolve," an ongoing show of military might meant to deter Russian aggression in the region…"

I pity the poor fool (tanker) who is in the sights of an A-10. The A-10 may not survive long in an Europeon dust-up, but they will add their effectiveness to put the hurt on any armoured invasion to cause delays and changes in strategies hopefully long enough to defend and counter-attack.

You should note that attempts to get rid of the A-10 go back to the days of it's design. There are still a bunch of, for lack of a better term, yutzes in the Air Force that think B-52's and sleek fighter jets are the way to win wars even though this has never been demonstrated despite their best efforts in WWII with lesser but vastly more numerous bombers. This current move is nothing new and it somewhat amusing given that, at last announcements, the F-35 couldn't yet fire it's cannon due to software issues.

Perhaps if they strengthen the wing or rudder leading edges of the F-35, they can use it for Taran Attacks.

Might make more sense in this era of "détente", and with an invisible fighter, they'll never see it coming.

Plus, we'll be honestly able to say no guns or missiles were fired in anger, and catastrophic aerial breakups do happen from time to time.
