My wife and I are planning a trip to Madison, WI, in October to scout for possible relocation within the next year or two. I've lived in So Wisc. before but not in Madison. What's the local gaming scene like there? Is there a good hobby shop I should visit? What should I know about what I might expect if we move there? (Gaming or otherwise.) |

The Last Square hobby and game store is one of the best that you will find so you are lucky to be in Madison. Milwaukee is a couple hours drive away from Madison and there is an active gaming community there too. |

Pegasus Games (www.pegasusgames.com) is on the southwest side of Madison. The Last Square is about 30 minutes west of Madison. Both are great stores. I don't know about any gaming groups in Madison, but we have many gamers here in the Milwaukee area. |

Coincidentally my wife and I will also be in Madison in October to scout out for a potential move there next year. I have already visited Pegasus Games and The Last Square on previous visits. I'll likely be looking for historical gaming opponents and am planning to prune back the collection before we move so that I only have matched pairs of armies to I can host games at ours. |

Is the Last Square still open? Yes, but it is no longer in Madison. They moved to Mount Horeb (west of Madison). lastsquare.com |

I'm a big gamer who moved back to Madison two years ago. I'm looking for players, so PM me and I'll tell you what I know. |

Our Milwaukee regional group has been around since 1970. One or two more companionable gamers would be welcome. Emphasis: companionable. ***** You can see a few of our games on these blogs: --- link Also go to the left side of this blog, scroll down to see games we've played on weekends and weeknights in 2015. --- generalpettygree.blogspot.com --- link --- If you are interested, let's talk. Respectfully, Bill P. *** PS Madison is only 90 minutes from the various locations where our games are played. Easily accessible by the interstate. |

Thanks Bill. Those games do look rather splendid and I would certainly like to join you for a few. My blog, Scrivsland, has a selection of the stuff I am playing and painting at the moment: scrivsland.blogspot.co.uk Would certainly like to make some Historical gaming friends if we arrive there next year. |

Hi Paul, I just had a very pleasant excursion on your blog. Well done indeed. Let's find a means to stay in contact for your possible debarkation in Madison. *** We could start by clicking on TMP's PM device and go from there. The grey P I think? We can trade emails there. *** Standing by…. Respectfully, Bill P. |

Thanks for all the helpful comments, suggestions, and advice above! Plans are afoot, my wife and I are making haste slowly, as the Romans might say. An exploratory journey in early October, to check the lay of the land, meet with a realtor and scout housing (anyone got a good realtor referral??), visit neighborhoods, check out the surrounding communities, generally soak up the atmosphere and see how comfortably it fits. We haven't lived up north since the early 1980s, haven't lived in Wisc. since 1981, have never lived in Madison, so it's very much terra incognito still. A big concern is how easily we could continue to pursue current hobbies and interests, so gaming is a factor (but not the only one). Just making contacts and establishing a network of pals and allies is a big step. It would be wild if Paul (above) and we are part of a movement, and can contribute toward building a bigger Madison gaming scene. Looks to be an interesting couple of years -- let's keep the dialogue going here, as events warrant! |

Hello Guys, So, I'm a dyed in the wool WWII guy, love FIW and AWI, and can always be pulled into a good Pulp, Plains Indians, Boer War, WWI East Afrika, or ACW skirmish game. Anyway, after a too long excursion to the wonderful Commonwealth of Virginia to serve your Uncle, my wife and I are moving back to the midwest later this year. While suburban Chicago was home for a long time, we also did a short stint in the Milwaukee area; which is where we will be returning to… Grafton-Cedarburg area to be exact. If you'll contact me I'd like to see what your group is all about. Cheers, Bill wargaming at aol dot com. |

I was in Madison again last week and had a chance to pop into Pegasus again, lots of games but no Historical Miniatures. I'll be back in Madison again next month. Paul |
