"Deteriorating ties between Russia and the West over the last 18 months could lead to a potential military confrontation between the Kremlin and NATO, the European Leadership Network (ELN), a London-based think tank, said in a report Wednesday. Citing two major military exercises conducted this year, the think tank warned that recent developments by both sides make a real conflict more likely. According to ELN, Russia conducted a massive "snap exercise" in March, involving as many as 80,000 military personnel. NATO also held its Allied Shield drills in June, involving 5,000 personnel from 19 member states and three partner states. ELN said that Russia and NATO have significantly increased scope and size of their military exercises in the Euro-Atlantic area since conflict in eastern Ukraine began…" Full article here link See also… Preparing for the Worst: Are Russian and NATO Military Exercises Making War in Europe more Likely? When the US cannot even defeat ragtag guerillas in the Middle East and Asia, why would they want to take on the Russians? Makes no sense. Same goes for the Russians vs. NATO. |

True, but they rarely do, and you also rarely get to choose the wars you're involved in. Yea, the recent analysis on how prepared we are to fight a protracted war with Russia does not bode well for us, or NATO. Finland is prepping its defense too. Last year they only had 6,000 reservists participate in exercises, and this year they've tripled that to 18,000. There are only 16,000 men in their whole army, but they can call upon 240,000 ex-military, supposedly, since military service for men in Finland is mandatory. Officially, there's no reason for the increase (in order to not irritate Russia), but of course unofficially we all know the increase is in response to Russia's aggression in the Ukraine, Crimea, Georgia, etc., and their continued bellicose rhetoric and actions. link |

Imho it would be more easy a conventional war than a guerrilla war. Amicalement Armand |

Everyone would be out of ammo in a month. |

I doubt it would last a month |

The notion of the two largest nuclear powers coming to blows conventionally is just absurd. Escalation? War will be avoided at all costs…. |

Yep, just read on another site that apparently we are low on AAMs. Not sure why, since we rarely if ever get to fire any, because no one will take off to play with the USAF, USN, or Marines. He'd probably lose, kyote. They are very well armed, and no doubt highly motivated, given their experience under the heel of communist rule. He seems to prefer theaters where he's assured of a win, like in Georgia, Crimea, Eastern Ukraine, and those little Baltic States that weren't legally permitted to seceded (Russia's official view on the subject). |

"So what if Putin lost his mind and invaded Poland???" He'd have to go through Belarus to do it, so let's assume the Belarussians are with him. If he's going after Poland, he'd probably take out the Baltic states as well. Nato's Article 5 kicks in, so NATO is engaged in a front stretching from Norway to the Black Sea. If Ukraine could stay out of it, it would be interesting, because the actual front line would probably be somewhere in western Poland and not that long. If Finland and Sweden stay out of things, an even narrower front. |

Armies are supposed to prepare for war. If not what are they for ( ok can be pretorians, coups, state money…)? Why would they want to invade Poland? What for? We have a common far more dangerous ennemy, who wants us extinct inside and nearby growing, a leper spreading and our militaro industrial complex wants the boost and sweet security of an old ennemy that might even never have been thinking seriously of attacking for 30+ years. Mind me, they have their own paranoļa just the same, and both might be dangerous if growing out of reason. |
