First playtest tonight of a WW2 set of rules I'm are working on with a view to perhaps publishing next year. Was a fun game… The Germans got the upper hand, and gained ground by covering their advance with smoke, and getting their LMG teams into positions to lay down heavy suppressing fire, with a large proportion of the British units constantly pinned down, the Germans managed to capture all three objectives for a win. The British suffered from a bit of bad luck and a failed assault saw them put on the defensive and some truly awful dice rolls stopped their commander rally his men who seemed to sensibly keep their heads down as the German MGs raked the houses with fire. The highlight for the British was the German medic rushing to the aid of the single German sMG42 team and tripping a booby trap as he entered a house which killed him instantly. Sadly for the British one of their men also trod on a mine which gutted a rifle team with several casualties. Fun game… and a very positive start.

Yes, those buildings and troops look superb! Are the buildings printed paper over foamcore, cardboard, or MDF? They look almost like photos of real buildings, printed out on paper, given all the nice shading, fine detailing, etc.. |

Yes, ruins can look lovely! |

Getting a game out of a smaller space is something that interests me. |

Beautiful as always, but how will these rules differ from what's already out there, and, in particular, from your own existing rules? |
PiersBrand | 15 Aug 2015 5:37 a.m. PST |
Not gonna say much about the rules, long way to go yet. The concept is offer a game that plays in a small space, with limited model count, last for a couple of hours, is fast and fun but gives a feel for the period and offers the players constant tactical choices to make that reward play in a historical manner. But overall, hopefully a game that people will enjoy and most WW2 gamers can play without the need to buy any further figures and can get cracking on straight out of the box. But as I say… long way to go yet. |

"Great terrain, what scale is this?" Hard for me to believe but Piers works in 20mm/HO. |

Always busy Tim… I'm a sucker for more punishments. Really doing the new rules for me and my club, but hey, others might like them! Rubble is dyed cat litter! |

Beautiful stuff! Dyed cat litter? I've used cat litter for years but never thought of dying it. The clay wouldn't dissolve in the dye? |
PiersBrand | 17 Aug 2015 12:00 p.m. PST |
Apparently not… as the pictures testify to… its made to be absorbent… |
Bill Slavin | 18 Aug 2015 6:15 a.m. PST |
True. I guess I meant to say that I assumed it would dissolve and wondered if there was a step I needed to know. Thank you for the tip! |

Love the wall-paper in pic No. 5…awesome stiff all round, but that's just the absolute bees-knees. |

Bill, Just use watered down acrylic paint as the dye. I put the water/paint mix into a fizzy drink bottle with the top cut off and pour in the cat litter and give it a stir. Warning – Its very messy… especially if like me you rope in a four year old and an eight year old to help you… Leave to dry for a good few days, I put some on a bin liner in the shed. It will stick together but its easy to break up again. For a faster drying process, my wife stuck some in teh oven to dry ooff for me! |

Thank you! Multi-coloured rubble on the to-do list. |

"awesome stiff all round" That sounds so wrong…
