I have a bunch Austrians from blue moon. I am using Koenig Krieg rules so I will have four bases with four figures. My dilemma is how do I put the command bubba's on there? I know I will have the officer, musicians, and standard bearer(s) in the center but where do the NCOs go? At the end of the formation on each end, or just on one end? In both ranks or just the back or front rank? Also, I have an officer with a saber and one with a partisan…does the one with the partisan go in the rear rank, far left or right while the two NCOs are also on the flanks but in the front rank? Remember, one battalion is 16 figures mounted on four bases with four figures on each base. Thanks! |

With units that size I go with officer, flag bearer and 14 privates. Otherwise it's all chiefs and no Indians. |

I usuallly go with one stand of all command figures (in your case 4) and the rest privates, troopers. They usually look too nice to leave out. |

I use 48 figures – Old Glory 15's – for a Prussian or Austrian battalion. For the Prussians, officer at each end of the first rank of 16 figures. Sergeants at each end of the rear rank of 16 figures. Drummers next to the Sergeants, 2nd from each end. The middle rank holds 2 Fahnenjunker for the Prussians, with sergeants next to them. 1 Colour on each of the 2 "center" stands. That is 10 personalities for 48, and relatively correct. For the Austrians, I have only 2 sergeants – their Feldwebels were really overworked! That's about 1 personality to 5 total. But we all want 2 colours for our Prussians. One could be an officer, the other a Fahnenjunker, plus a drummer and one sergeant. GdeP |

If you wanted to go with more than two command figures for a 16 man battalion, I would suggest the following: Base one has Sgt at right rear, base two has ensign at front left, base three has officer or musician at front right and base four has Sgt at left rear. That way you have two command figures front and center, plus two NCOs at the outside back of the formation. |

@Garde de Paris Interesting!, how do base 48 figures for Koenig Krieg? It would certainly be a spectacular game with such large units. The recommendation is for 16 figure units as aluded to by other posters. |

You could make a 5 stand unit with a centre stand just for show. It doesn't shoot or take casualties etc. And it wouldn't foul up moving or shooting distances as 16 man units would result in a very abstracted game anyway. |

Your drummers should always be placed in the rear. |
