"SyFy has released the first trailer for their TV mini series adaptation of Arthur C. Clarke's classic CHILDHOOD'S END which will air in three consecutive nights in December (together with EXPANSE) starring Mike Vogel, Charles Dance and Julian McMahon! The story follows the peaceful alien invasion of Earth by the mysterious "Overlords," whose arrival begins decades of apparent utopia under indirect alien rule, at the cost of human identity and culture. Mike Vogel plays the man who is chosen to be the bridge between humans and the Overlords! Charles Dance plays the lead Overlord who promises humans bold new world, one free of disease, poverty, crime and war."

I remember very little about the book since I read it when I was a teenager many years ago, but that looks GREAT! Will SyFy actually get back to making good TV?

SyFy has had a group of decent shows on the past couple years. Dark Matter is a decent show that started this year. Dominion I'm on the fence about but they are trying to make it a good one. Defiance is very good and 12 Monkeys as well. The Ascension miniseries was a misfire but they were trying. In addition to Childhood's End the teasers for "The Expanse" look interesting as well.

I recently re-read Childhood's End, would enjoy seeing this mini-series if it is reasonably faithful to the book.

By the sound of the "write up" they are changing things around already.
This could just end up looking like another version of "V".

Rabbit, never read Clark's book, but "V" is what I thought of when I saw that trailer also.

BUT – "V" looked to be more visually stimulating than this. This appears more human-story than the combo story & eye candy "V" was.

And I HATE that "V" got cancelled by ABC for NO GOOD REASON – viewership was rising, not falling, and shows in similar timeslots with LESS viewership stayed.

Childhood's End is one of the best SF novels ever. I really hope Syfy stays as accurate as possible to the book.

I too hope it is as good as the book … but I have my doubts … especially with Syfy. They seem to excel in drivel like Sharknado and such. Rarely even touching on "good" sci-fi … IMO …
