I have started writing down some conversions for using Force On Force for WW2 actions. FoF is one of my favorite sets of rules, and I think it would make for a great WW2 game. A lot of work has been done already on the Ambush Alley forums and elsewhere, but I have some particular goals in mind, so I've been compiling my ideas on my blog here: link
It's club night here, and I'll be bringing my Flames of War minis to do a test game with a scenario I have devised. I'll post up a report on how it went, and the scenario, in the next few days. |

There are still copies of the Force on Force rules that were for WW2. Why not use them? |

There are still copies of the Force on Force rules that were for WW2. I was looking for these but everywhere is sold out and it is said that a new edition by the original authors may be coming out…… eventually. |

Not to hijack the thread, but am also waiting for the FoF Colonial rules! |

I've found Force on Force works very well for WWII, especially with Flames of War stands and vehicles. If you haven't downloaded it yet, here is a link to the First Edition WWII variant on the Ambush Alley download page: link Here is the link to Ambush Alley's Force on Force Scenario Primer that contains six generic scenarios including force lists for WWII engagements: PDF link What I really enjoy about FoF WWII compared with FoW is that to be successful you really have to use fire and maneuver intelligently and the AFVs do not run rough shod over the board. The Reaction system and Fog of War cards really add a level of uncertainty for both sides. Our playing group uses 3/8" pom-poms of various colors placed near or on the stands to denote casualties, overwatch, etc. So far it has worked really well. |

I was able to give the rules a brief playtest on the weekend. I haven't had time to write up my thoughts on the rules, but I posted some photos from the game here: link

One trick that I started for Force on Force (and have continued to use since) is to buy one extra platoon of 15mm figures to base individually to make change once the stand takes casualties. Something else I do with FoW minis is only put 3 men per infantry stand. My first troops based that way were FJ, and I stretched a third platoon out of them. I think it looks better with 3 per base than 4 or especially 5. It was suggested that you base that way for veteran troops back in Flames v1. Put the two together and it's pretty easy to handle playing other games. |
