I've been getting some questions lately on how to build the Bergetiger (P) – so I've put up a how to guide on the blog. Short story – it's a fairly intense conversion, but it isn't impossible with some basic casting or judicious surgery of a few miniatures.

What you'll need:

One Tiger (P)
One Elefant
One Panzer IV ausf G
Top machine gun from a hetzer (or Stug G late)

You'll also need some green putty or apoxie sculpt for zimmerit – a couple of thicknesses of styrene (to the very thin side) – and a fair bit of patience!

Eventually you'll get something that looks like this:

… and after painting hopefully something like this:

None were ever fielded, right?

There are a couple of photographs of them in the field. Some made it into service supporting Elephants in Poland and northern Italy.

At least a couple were used operationally. 653 Schwere Panzerjaeger used them in the Ukraine. The first company had been separated and sent to oppose the Anzio bridgehead. Both used the Bergetiger (P).

Oh right, never knew that – thanks.

I knew the BergePanther was used a lot, and Shermans were much sought after to de-turret and use in the armoured recovery role, but none of my sources mention the Bergetiger P….
