Seventh update to my Rep. Roman project. Here is the second Triarii unit [century?] composed of 28mm scale minis from 1st Corp. There wasn't much scope for making changes to the poses and I wished I'd removed their spear hands, fixed the spear to the stump and re-worked a hand around the spear shaft. I went for two approaches with the shields, the first with Mig mud and the second with dark streaks…all in all I'll probably re-work the dark streaks with a little Mig mud. A group shot:

Thank you for looking and suggestions for new units welcome. I'm now working on the Hastati… Stuart. :-) |

Great work again! If you're thinking 2nd Punic War, how's about some penal legionaries? Or if you want something to represent the earlier Camillan army, try unarmoured Equites, Leves instead of Velites, Principes with spears instead of pila, and plain shields. I've been thinking about this – I already have enough figures to do do the Roman legions of a consular army. |

how's about some penal legionaries Thank you C. some great suggestions. I had a thought that 'penal' legionnaires would have weapons and armour taken either from shrines/temples, or had no armour or a helmet, just a spear or sword? If anyone had any thoughts on these types of troops I'd appreciate hearing them. Stuart. :-) |

Rather usefully, 1st Corps do penal legion figs: link They also make unarmoured Hastati/Principes. right come in handy? |

Victrix will be releasing Spanish infantry 'shortly' – maybe Spanish allies are called for? I am not a Roman fan but your figures are wonderful characters. Garry |

Victrix will be releasing Spanish infantry 'shortly' – maybe Spanish allies are called for? Thank you for the kind comments Mithridates and the suggestion. I hadn't considered Spaniards and think they'd be a nice change. Crusader, has some very nice Penal Legionaries. IMHO Mike Adams Thank you legion 1950. I like these, but would probably remove the helmets, give them a forlorn look… Rather usefully, 1st Corps do penal legion figs These do look nice, but 1st Corp minis do come up a little shorter than Aventine minis and to my eye they don't mix well. Saying that, they do have the 'look' I thinking to pursue. Less armour and non Roman weapons/shields appears to be the way to go. Thanks guys, a great help. 8-) Stuart. |

The Triarii were in half-sized maniples of 60. I think they would have been called regular maniples anyway, though. |

I think they would have been called regular maniples anyway Apologies for the late reply Sadowa1866. Yes, I agree, probably 1/3 the size of the other two maniples. Stuart. |
