Helion and Company publishing presents the ‘Helion and Company English Civil War Conference' Saturday 19th September 2015 Earlier this year Helion and Company proudly launched the ‘Century of the Soldier' book series dedicated to all aspects of the military history of the Seventeenth Century. As part of our ongoing support of the series, we are pleased to present the ‘Helion and Company Conference of the English Civil War. The event will be held at Rowley's House, Shrewsbury on Saturday 19th September 2015 Papers on the day • Amphibious Operations in Scotland October 1650 to August 1651. • 'Medical Care and the King's Army in Oxford, 1642-46 – Was there any?' • Parliamentarian Cavalry Tactics or Why Waller lost Roundway. • The Parliamentarian War Effort in Shropshire during the English Civil War, 1642-46 • ‘Wedged up like billets in a wood pile': New light on the battle of Middlewhich, 13TH March 1643 • The legacy of the Fighting Veres in the English Civil War • Ground-breaking pioneers or dangerous amateurs? Did early-modern surgery have any basis in medical science?" The event in September will also see the launch of the next book in the series: Reconstructing the New Model Army Volume 1, by renowned Civil War Historian Professor Malcolm Wanklyn. Series Editor Charles Singleton says, "Interest in 17th century military history is very keen and the conference is aimed at encouraging more research and introducing the dynamics of the period to a wider audience. Thanks Tim, I ran into Chas this afternoon at the Brampton Bryan ECE bash and he is sorting it for me. Had problems with the online system, so had to resort to old-fashioned methods. |

Many thanks to Charles Singleton and all the organisers for putting this on. It was my first event of the type and I really enjoyed it. The plan of 1st Middlewich was especially cool! |
