Hi all, I am going for a Black Powder scenario: Battle for Hougoumont. During the day, there was a commander on that location. However, when I am searching for a commander and/or General they are Always on a horse or a horse is located next to them. I Always buy my mini's from the Perry Brothers, but they don't sell them. Warlord Games also dont have them. Anyone have a good site? Or just a nice sollution to this? |

If your commander is a regimental officer then any of the Perry's 1815 British/KGL dismounted line infantry officers should do. If it is a dismounted general, then the new infantry officers from the Peninsular figures can easily be converted to generals as they have bicornes. All you have to do is add aiguillettes with something like Green Stuff. (There is a dismounted general (Wilson) in the Russian High Command set, but that seems an expensive option.) |

Doesn't Foundry make a pack of high ranking French officers on foot as a vignette? I can't tell from your post what nationality you are looking for. |

"Back in the day," with Staddens and Willies in 30mm, we had generals (and above) on foot, mostly for the French. But somewhere in storage I have one British general with bicorn, high boots, waist sash, pointing, on foot. Tradition of London carries these figures, but I have not had time to dig through the site for British general on foot. They have a fine Wellington on foot with his dark blue frock coat & Lord Combermere as a general of Light Dragoons (I converted him to a light dragoon trooper on foot with French-length carbine, instead of the stubby British one). Here (I hope) is the link to a page with dismounted (and some mounted) French personalities. Cambronne makes a great dismounted French general from Brigade upward. link The next page shows more figures. I used the French marshal on this page, mounted on the rearing Mameluke horse from the first page, as my Corps commander. link A friend gave me a painted mounted officer of the Grenadier Guards, on walking horse, and I use him as General Friant, who once had the 33eme de ligne in his command. I have 38 figures of the 33eme (in white uniforms faced "violette") converted from Staddens, currently in my 2nd Division, and use him as the Division Commander. Neither he nor the 33rd were in Spain, but "never let a good figure (or set of figures) go to waste!" GdeP |

I think overall the Foundry French command packs are the best, even though they are a little smaller than the current Perries.

Hi All, Couldnt respond sooner because I am a new member. I could create a new topic, but I wasnt allowed to respond … weird … Anyway … I was looking for the (British) MacDonell, who was stationed in Hougoumont. I want to thank you all for giving me links, but I dont like the Foundry mini's so much. Perhaps being spoiled by the Perry mini's. But then again I do want MacDonell :-) |

He was a captain in the Guards (Lt Colonel therefore in the Line). You need a figure with fringed epaulettes on both shoulders there fore and they seem hard to find! I am a late convert to Front rank figures but am very much taken with their recent reinforcement packs. Any of BN34-BN40 would do (if you can just add the left shoulder fringes with Greenstuff. 2 minutes work……. link |

Meant to say look at the Reinforcement packs (command figures) as they are better anatomically, as newer. Again you need to add the fringed epaulettes but that is a cinch. He would have worn a Belgic shako, not the Bicorne, by 1815, as he was not on the staff link |

I dont like the Foundry mini's so much. Perhaps being spoiled by the Perry mini's. Guess who sculpted the Foundry Napoleonic range |

The dynamic duo have moved on since. Scale creep has served them well. Their early Netherlands or Brunswickers are malnourished when compared to their later releases………. |

Agreed, but the French and Russian foot mix well in the respective ranges, in my view. I'm not a fan of the Foundry cavalry sculpts though. |
