Some nice looking vessels there. Any new WWII, or modern vessels in the works, or that have been released of late, Dave? |

I few WW2 in the mill that I will get moving once the first wave FOTL is out. A flak Siebel is nearest on the horizon- one loaded with 20mm and 37mm. Dave G The PT Dockyard |

Hey, Dave, what sources did you mine to come up with some of the "might have beens" in your Fury On the Lakes" line? Do tell, or do we need to bring in some of Uncle Willy's "military advisors" to do the asking? They say they "haff vays uff makingk you talk". |
ptdockyard | 05 Jan 2016 6:22 p.m. PST |
Well, I have lots of sources like Friedman's US Small Combatants: A Design History, a number of things on the Russian Civil War, etc. Add to those Fast Fighting Boats 1870-1945, a few designs I found on some websites, histories of the Great Lakes and the Barge Canal, some inspiration from the RCMP and some liberal changes to some drawings I had . Just for starters…. |

I drool in envy, and bow before your superior research-fu. |
ptdockyard | 06 Jan 2016 10:37 a.m. PST |
Naw….it's more knowing about lots of small craft from that era for years and then finding an arena for them to all "engage" in😉 |

Ok, now I have to haunt ebay and Amazon for a cheap copy of either or both books. Mrs. Carp has threatened to fillet me and fry my guts in brown butter if any more books appear in my, errr, our house. |

While poring over my copy of Jane' Fighting Ships of WW1, I noticed a sad little note at the end of the book, in the "ships lost in the war" section, under British. "General Note.--The following small craft were lost during the War, but space does not permit of particulars being given:-- 29 Motor Launches (M.L. 566, 561, 541, 540, 534, 474, 431, 424, 421, 403, 356, 279, 255, 254, 253, 247, 230, 197, 149, 121, 110, 64, 62, 55, 52, 40, 19, 18). 17 Coastal Motor Boats (Nos. 79A, 71A, 67A, 62BD, 50, 47, 42, 40, 39B, 33A, 18A, 11, 10, 8, 2, 1)." What stories have been swept under the Carpet of History for being guilty of relative insignificance to the "Grand Scheme of Things"????? Edit: link gives some answers to the fates of several of these craft. FOr instance, MLs #230, #253, were #255 being ferried as cargo to Taranto when the ship they were aboard was torpedoed by an Austrian submarine, KUK U-4 off Cape Rizzuto, on the ball of the foot on the Italian boot. |

Some of these, like the CMBs, are in Fury. Others are there but in revised form. The MLs are in US service with a new wheelhouse. Dave |

Still awaiting a master for one of these FPF boats. Catching up on casting ( thanks to the new movie "Northern Line Limit, the Korean moderns are suddenly hot), shoveling snow… I am forcing myself to finish a project in process before starting any others. Once that is done (early next week) I will get busy on: US 56' Armored Patrol Boat US Mackinac class patrol craft Canadian Hunt class minesweeper US coastal monitor There also is a Whaleback freighter lurking in the weeds too. Busy, busy, busy………. |

Dave, Love the eclectic collection of 'high powered' ships. I got invited aboard a friends wooden ship he was restoring. Started life on the west coast 1928 as 50-55' supply boat for the then dep of the Indian affairs. Converted to a wartime patrol boat…then back after the war. When he got it she still had the mighty garner Diesel engine …ran all of 8 knots as I recall. When completed everyone just thought she was an older fishing boat, with no thought of the history. Well done sir….. |

I was wondering if you use any aircraft minis in your games? If so, what types? |
green beanie | 10 Mar 2016 5:37 p.m. PST |
BTW, I read some where that Ford made Eagle Boats during WW 1. Couldn't their Detroit factory produce Eagle Boats for the Lakes? |
ptdockyard | 12 Mar 2016 10:05 a.m. PST |
Ready for molding in the next week or so: US 56' Armored Patrol Boat US Mackinac class patrol craft Canadian Hunt class minesweeper Canadian 86' Drifter Canadian X-lighter Gun version US Scaup Class Minesweeper (based on real USS Bache 1918) More planned! Many will be also useful in "real Timeline WW1" actions in the channel. Yes, I am considering Eagle boats. I do have basic rules for A/C (very little for air to air but more covering attacks on ships) but will probably not produce minis. The Canadians use British aircraft. Given the US alliance with Germany existing WW1 1/600 German aircraft in US colors could fill the bill for that. One primary US fighter in the game is the Vought VE-7 but I have not looked to see if any current miniatures might be close enough. Dave G |

Zowie!!!! A doubleplusgood, happy-happy, joy-joy day! My Fast Fighting Craft book ($25 on eBay) just arrived, and I just won a copy of US Small Combatants for a mere $65 USD ($95 and a lot more everywhere else I'd looked) on eBay! Whoooo! Color me dazzle-cammo and slide me into the water--I'm ready to throttle-up! As I mentioned and linked before, wrecksite.eu is a nice way to get the goods on not only specific wrecked/sunken ships, but also the action in which they were lost, be it combat or otherwise. Often the combat details other units that were also engaged. This can include equipment or command failures, tactics, weather conditions affecting the situation, and other juicy bits of data to stuff away in your feverish brain.+ Behold the action that took out CMD62: link |

The Small Combatants book is great. One thing- his drawings on the Shearer submersible MTB are all wrong. I found an article with photos, drawings etc showing a boat that almost looks like a shoe :) That is what I based my model on. Dave G |

Wow. Skimming through Fast Fighting Boats, I came upon plans for an experimental WW2 U-Boat design that was to carry 3 mini-schellboots in a sealed decktop hangar, to be released,on the surface, of course, to harrass Allied shipping. What'll they think of next?? |
capncarp | 17 Mar 2016 11:13 a.m. PST |
The US Small Combatants has arrived, and it seems chock-full of brown-water and littoral combat yumminess. My life is complete. I can die happy now. Until I see another goodie I can't live without. |
