I have been offered and will be accepting a position as a Librarian II working for the Dallas, Texas Public Library. Sadly I will be leaving my friends and gaming pals here in Charlotte, NC, but the job offer is a good one and it is a great opportunity helping manage the History and Social Science and Genealogical collection. In other words I will be helping preserve and promote history. That will be a cool gig. It looks like there is an active war gaming community in Dallas and lots of conventions as well. Once I am settled I will be looking up some of the area game stores and game groups. I am sure there will be some culture shock being a long time resident of the Ole North State. Oh and there are those 100 plus degree temperatures to get used to. I'll make sure to bring a fan. |

Sorry, but we have a 20-year residency requirement to become a naturalized Texan. At least you are not a carpet bagger. Welcome to Texas. |

But you people think Brisket is BBQ. I will have to disabuse you of that fallacy. I have heard good things about Twistercon. Since I have been an active game master for the east coast cons I plan to continue the practice now that I will be in the south west. I also saw that there appears to be a cool one day convention held on the Battleship USS Texas in October. I will have to see if I can have that day off and do the three hour drive to the Texas coast. |

I have an idea of doing a modern US Civil War built around various BBQ clans: brisket, wet, dry, sweet, tangy, etc. etc. |

Happy trails, kallman! I sent you a PM today about gaming in Charlotte… |

Best of luck with your move. It's tough leaving behind a good gaming community. I know it would give me pause. |

Patrick, I responded to your PM. There are great bunch of war gamers in Charlotte. |

I suppose I will have to start wearing big belt buckles. |
jdpintex | 07 Aug 2015 4:20 p.m. PST |
The battleship Texas is a great venue for gaming. Come on down. However it will probably be a good five hour drive for you. Dallas isn't much for boots and big belt buckles. Maybe Ft Worth. To fit into Dallas you will need a broomstick inserted where the sun don't shine. (Your first lesson is that Houston and Dallas do NOT like each other, as we consider them Yankee-lite) |

But you people think Brisket is BBQ. I will have to disabuse you of that fallacy Oh you silly boy! Say that now and you are okay… Try that in Texas and you will get shot… Especially around Midland-Odessa or Houston-Pearland/Pasadena…. |

But you people think Brisket is BBQ. That's because Carolinans don't know how to cook brisket. Trust me, slow-smoked over mesquite is the best way to cook it. The down side is that it takes 8 hours. (And no sauce, either. It gets in the way of the flavor.) The second-best way to cook brisket is caldillo, which is also a Texas thing. |

It is very true about 3 hours to just get out of Dallas. Make sure you update your GPS device on a monthly rotation. So much road work being done. Having made the Oklahoma City to Dallas trip many times in my younger days, it can be a long one. And it is flat. The new job sounds cool. I wish you all the best. Matthew |

Congratulations! I'm just sorry to hear that you'll be leaving the Charlotte area. I was hoping to get in on one of your games of Lion Rampant @ PBKW, but I'm glad to have made your acquaintance at Nazrat's man-cave. Best wishes for a safe move, hope you make new friends fast! |

I live north of DFW in Grayson County, just south of Oklahoma. If you have any interest in the Indian wars or the Old West let me know. I can show you some sites in West Texas. For that matter the Civil War was a bit bloody here in my part of North Texas. Welcome home. |
BrianW | 07 Aug 2015 7:12 p.m. PST |
Welcome to Texas! Oh, and the convention on the Battleship Texas is actually two days long. We would love to have you there. PM me if you have any questions about it. BWW |

Could be worse. Could be Louisiana…"Why does Louisiana sit next to Texas?" "Because the Sabine River sucks… " Eric Actually, I've most often heard that joke told by Louisianians bemoaning the fact that we live next to the world's largest lunatic asylum and the inmates there are definitely running the show. Mind you, I'm not particularly fond of Louisiana but Texas? No way, Jose! LT |

Happy and gobsmacked by this at the same time. My best friend and brother of 39 years is leaving me to find new adventures. I feel kind of lost, although I have offered to ride with him to his new home so I will make the most of all the time we have left. Damn. Damn. |

Well Naz once we get there and have unloaded the truck we can check out Texas Toy Soldier. Looks like I will be getting an apartment in the Plano area if I find the right set up. @Chottaw, oh yes I am most defiantly interested in Indian Wars, Old West, and as Nazrat will tell you we have collected and run a lot of ACW games. We also have run a number of Wild West games using The Rules With No Name. I bought a substantial collection of Foundry US Cavalry and Plains War Indians off of 45thDiv aka Matthew about a year ago and plan to start working on getting them painted up once I am settled. @ Timotheous, yes sorry I have not had a chance to run a game of Lion Rampant for you. However, it has become quite popular with Nazrat and the gang so please dive in with the game group in Charlotte. They are great group of people and I am going to miss Naz and all of them terribly. The salary I will be earning is pretty decent so I hope to fly back on occasion to hang out and roll some dice with ole gang. That and I hope to at least make Historicon if I can work out the logistics. Looks like I will be getting to meet a lot of the Texas and south west contingent of TMP members and that will be fun. I also hope to get involved in the local art scene and get back to painting and drawing and who knows perhaps sculpting again. Initially my family will not be coming with me as we have to get our house fixed up to sell. That means when I am not at work I will have lots of free time on my hands. So I hope to be productive in other ways. It does sound like I will not be wanting for chances to game which was one of my concerns when I was doing the job hunt. Warlock, I have noted Millennium Con on my calendar and will see if I can attend. BrianW will do, my only concern about attending the con on the USS Texas is it will occur so soon after I have moved. I may not be able to get the time off due to scheduling as we librarians work rotating shifts. Regardless I will contact you and see if I cannot make it down. I would love to run a game if things work out. Thanks for the warm welcome Texans. I am looking forward to getting to know ya'll. |

Well, I'm from Argentina and this year I got my US citizenship here in Texas, so I consider myself a Texan :) Plus my kids were born here and every time we travel when it is time to go back they say we are going back to Earth, since clearly every other place must be in a different planet :) +1 on Millennium Con in Round Rock in November, great fun ! cheers, Francisco |

kallman, Well if you can't make it to the battleship this year, there's always next year. I will be at Millenniumcon in Austin as well, and as conventions go it's great. BWW |

Just got back from 4 days in 100+ degree San Antonio…glad to be back in more temperate North Carolina August heat! Took a day trip to Fredericksburg TX and "discovered" the National Museum of the Pacific War…had no idea…also discovered a great brewpub…Fredericksburg Brewing of course. Good luck. |
