Seriously, how big a box would you need for all of your unpainted (including partially) lead? This includes figures, vehicles and terrain.

Mine is primarily comprised of "unintended" lead: unpainted that came with painted collections I bought, where I only wanted the painted.

That said, even with padding, every scrap of mine would easily fit in one tub perhaps 24" long, 18" wide, 18" tall.

Some things can never be measured.

I always knew Noah was really just a gamer looking for an excuse to save the collection…

TMPWargamerabbit06 Aug 2015 7:30 p.m. PST

Strictly lead miniatures… Filled to the top solid … would be the same tub size 30"x 18" x 18" approx. But with separation unit size boxes, bags and larger storage boxes collection of unpainted miniatures spreads out over half dozen strong metal shelving racks.

Now the unbuilt 1/72 scale models (vehicles, tanks, planes etc) collections…. 22 full size apple boxes…maybe more but I can easily count the first 22 boxes stacked in garage.

Plastic soldier miniatures…. almost none. I prefer metal over plastic.

The good news… painted collection still larger!

Captain Oblivious06 Aug 2015 7:55 p.m. PST

Hmmmm. At 1 figure per 30 minutes, I would guess somewhere in the 100+ day category.

Mako1106 Aug 2015 8:52 p.m. PST

A single box?

You're joking, right.

Perhaps a box truck (not all lead, some model kits, terrain, etc.)…….

Personal logo Extra Crispy Sponsoring Member of TMP06 Aug 2015 9:49 p.m. PST

No, I am not joking. One box.

Chuckaroobob06 Aug 2015 9:52 p.m. PST

I guess it would have to be about a 10 foot cube.

But that's without taking them all out of the packaging.

snurl106 Aug 2015 9:58 p.m. PST

Yep, a 10 foot cube might be big enough.

Personal logo Doctor X Supporting Member of TMP06 Aug 2015 10:38 p.m. PST

I estimate at least 130 cubic feet.

My shed is 6 metres x 3 metres, my study is 4 metres x 3 metres, and my painting bookshelf is 2.5 metres x 2 metres x .5 metres. You do the maths.

Olympus mons?

Ssendam07 Aug 2015 2:17 a.m. PST

No No No No and No!

It is not a 'Lead Mountain', no one has a lead mountain for lots of reasons, among which are; you don't want your other half to see how much money you've spent and you would feel very depressed looking at all the things you haven't done.

No … what we have is 'Lead Icebergs'; some of the lead is out in the open, on the workbench ready for painting or just lined up for the next project, or maybe in packets still awaiting sorting. However, like an iceberg, 7/8ths is beneath the surface, hidden away in drawers, tins, boxes etc. … and consequently I have no idea what my Lead Iceberg is like and probably don't want to.

Runequest, the RPG, had the idea that real dragons existed but were so big that seeing one in it's entirety would fry your brain … I imagine it's similar with the Lead Iceberg.

One plastic bag, a shoe box and an A4 boxfile.

The shoe box and boxfile would fit in the plastic bag.

Mmmmm

Good question

Probably a 7 foot tall by 6 foot deep by 4 foot wide box

It would be a pretty packed box, though

razuse07 Aug 2015 4:48 a.m. PST

extra crispy, you need lead help….having that little lead is dangerous close to death…when you are out of lead, you die…hell, I am living 300 years at least!

Everything lead would fit comfortably inside an 8"x8"x8" box. Unpainted 1/72 plastic tanks would go in another small box. Everything would probably fit in a 9"x12"x6" plastic tote.

haywire07 Aug 2015 6:49 a.m. PST

10x10 storage unit. But it also has tub of winter clothes, tub of "thin clothes", cds and tapes, costume and LARP props, comic book boxes, big tub of LEGOS, and lots of old computer electronics.

boy wundyr x07 Aug 2015 6:53 a.m. PST

If I didn't care about squishing them and they weren't in packaging, maybe 3'x3'x3'. In normal space, a 8'x10' room. In temporal terms, 200 years.

Who asked this joker07 Aug 2015 7:08 a.m. PST

Half of a paper box…those boxes that hold 10 reams of paper.

Toronto4807 Aug 2015 8:24 a.m. PST

One box also – the white one

TMPWargamerabbit07 Aug 2015 11:04 a.m. PST

We are talking about UNPAINTED lead stuff correct? The painted collection fills a small garage with all the storage need surrounding painted miniatures.

Order two PODS next week on "to do list".

Not saying I have a lot as they are stored in this little box

I have all mine sorted into shoe boxes, so they actually fill a shelf. But then my "Ogre" box is maybe 1/3 full. My 15mm WW2 is half full and so on. And a lot of this is really just sitting until I can get to a flea market anyway…

christot07 Aug 2015 2:23 p.m. PST

A box? A box is for keeping matches in….

DalyDR07 Aug 2015 3:17 p.m. PST

With sufficient padding, maybe 1.5 of those 24"x18"x18" tubs.

I've got about 1000 unpainted 25mm/28mm mini's. My problem is that they take more room when painted and based than they do jammed into the check boxes they are in now.

DisasterWargamer Supporting Member of TMP07 Aug 2015 10:42 p.m. PST

Currently in a number of plastic boxes and tubs – an area about 2 ft by 3 ft by 3 ft

Personal logo etotheipi Sponsoring Member of TMP08 Aug 2015 5:00 a.m. PST

I actually have a couple of boxes (12"x12"x12" book boxes) right now, which is unusual for me. I got behind painting the stuff I bought during my move.

I also have a box "source materials" consisting of left over bits and "generic" things I have bought for use in future, undreamed of as of yet, projects. I wouldn't count that. For me, it's like having paint or Kneadatite, or whatever.

Terrain stuff, I have two (small) closet-sized bins full, but again, that is mostly raw materials for scratchbuilding. I suppose the other three "closets" full of craft supplies should count in some manner, as I may bogart them from SWMBO to make something, as she may do the same to "my stuff". Only a small volume of actual kits, though. As mentioned above, terrain becomes much larger when put together.
