I had considered doing this as several different topics, but rather than overload the main page, I decided to buck the TMP trend and consolidate them into a single topic. Who are your favourite ship's crew members? For the purposes of this poll, a 'ship' must have at least two crew on board and be bigger than a fighter (so the Millennium Falcon counts, but not Luke's X-wing). Rather than consider every possible crew position, I'd like to narrow this down to three categories: pilot/helmsman, engineer/mechanic and medical officer. Of course, this being TMP, go ahead and expand to include comms, navigators or whatnot. I'm also only considering individuals, not the overall crew, and am specifically excluding the captain, unless the captain is also the pilot. So Han Solo is in, Captain Picard is out. Again, ignore the rules if you wish. Helmsman/pilot: I vote for Wash Washburne, pilot of Serenity. I like his character – reminds me of an old gaming buddy. Runner up is Hikaru Sulu – an incurable romantic with delusions of being D'Artagnan. Engineer: Gotta go with Scotty, who practically invented the character type in modern media. Runner up is Chief Tyrol, who is not only skilled at his job but understands the value of team work and is a great collaborative leader. Honourable mention for Kaylee, as she is just cute as a button and can still keep that old girl flying. Medical Officer: These all seem much of a much to me, but I'll go with Doc Cottle, as I like his cantankerousness. He won't sugarcoat anything. If I'm stuck in sickbay, Bev Crusher would be the nicest to look at. Honourable mention for Stephen Maturin – probably the most interesting to spend time with, but if I'm hurt I'd prefer someone with access to futuristic medical equipment (or at least modern). |

Babylon 5 commander Susan Ivanova. When confronting the shadow/Earth cruiser Hybrids she stated, "God sent me". One of the great science fiction characters. Plus she is pure hotness to boot. |

Gotta go with Scotty and Bones from Star Trek for engineer and medical officer. Janice Rand for yeoman (should probably be yeowoman, but some might suspect I'm just saying, yo woman as if to call her over, so, maybe not). Not sure on some of the others, given your restrictions, so will have to ponder that a bit. |

When it comes to doctors, I'd go B5 as well: Stephen Franklin's character is one of the most fully rounded and interesting – and tragic – in SF. John T |

I like Wash for the Pilot Engineer? Gotta be Scotty And the medic – nobody beats Bones (Jim – I'm a doctor, not a --- fill in whatever suits the situation) |

I wish we could have seen more adventures of the Betty I`m sure there must be some mileage in the further adventures of the Ripley/Alien hybrid clone, the rogue android and the disabled engineer on the Betty after the end of the movie. Maybe we`ll get lucky one day. |
