Are any of the noble titles bestowed by Napoleon still active among the recipient's descendants? |

The nobility carried on and some are still around such as Duc de Rivoli (from Massena) and Prince Murat. Many have died out such as Ney's line which only ended in 1969. |

Eugene lost the titles given by Napoleon, but gained some new ones after the war. He seems to have been accepted into the European elites and his children married into various royal dynasties. |

I recently met a descendant of Marshal Soult who was running a small restaurant in a small Essex village in the UK. Very pleasant man – and the restaurant food was very good. Sadly, he and his partner sold up about a year ago and I've lost touch. Mr Soult (of Spanish descent) boasted no titles, so I guess some wild oats had been sown a couple of hundred years ago. |

Back in the early 90s I worked for a descendant of Moreau – I think he was in his 70s then so almost certainly deceased now. He was a very modest guy, academically brilliant, and very much an English gent; he was surprised – and rather pleased – when I asked if he was related. He knew a bit of Moreau, but not much of the military history of that period, and was interested when I explained contemporary warfare, strategy/tactics etc to him. |

Friant's descendant is an interior designer in Oakland, CA. On the phone he told me that his grandmother spent the entire fortune on her younger lover. "It is so French." Don't know if the title endured. |
