Jonathan, I look forward to the 3rd highlight. I conclude that your thinned white highlight is to work opposite to those who typically highlight against a darker back ground. That being the folds getting more of the white and leaving the grey to show most in the "high" areas thus working opposite to say a dry brush of the high area in white leaving more gray in the folds/shadow for the belts, vest, lapels etc. Would this be correct? It will be interesting , if this is the case, how the third highlight will work for this. MG |

Hi MG I have been playing with the ability of being able to use thin applications of Vallejo off white over a dark grey base coat to effectively get shading in areas of belts and creases. You will see that with just the first wash the base coat is showing up where the waistcoat buttons are and where the lapels and crossbelts meet. A third highlight is used to accentuate these shades without the need for a hard grey line delineating them which I find a bit too obvious. The other benefit is that when painting en mass it really speeds up the process. If you want to see the effect you can check out the 1/96 and 2/96' the two preceding battalions. JJ |
