I read a painting tutorial where someone uses enamels to paint their 6mm armor. I always though acrylics where to be used (less shine than enamels).

Anyone here use enamels instead of acrylics? What's the advantage?

Spray. They're too small for me any more.

Base coat metal with enamel then over coat with acrylics …

Most of my stuff was painted with enamels 30 years ago so any additions just use the same plus I still use the same technique (even though I now know of better ones) to keep them in keeping with each other.
Matt varnish in a little bottle, may be called Matt Cote, stops any shine and gives it a protective coat.

Aren't enamels harder to work with for airbrushing?

For 6mm, I very rarely use spray paint. Save for Testor's Dullcote.

Various ways to do it. My preference is to undercoat black using a cheap spray can for 6mm formed infantry, then blotch on acrylic in quite bright colours.

For vehicles and for WWII/Modern infantry I have also undercoated gray, again with a cheap primer, and then used very thinned acrylic ( a cheap 'olive drab' ) to glaze the colour on for allied armour, thinned black for feldgrau and so on.

This works very well, although I have seen some amazing results for this sort of technique by people way better than me.

I don't use oil based paints for anything any more. Just so much nicer.

I use both acrylics and enamels on 6mm figures. Although on vehicles and aircraft I do use spray paint for the undercoat and base coat. I think that enamel paint gives a more 'solid' finish

Back in the 1970s I used enamel, now I use acrylic. No difference in shine, big difference in brush care and doing times.
