…Shot Version.

"Upcoming from Osprey Games, kindly borrowed from the author's blog Mersey Books: The Pikeman´s Lament is our forthcoming adaptation of the Origins Award-nominated Lion Rampant skirmish rules. Where Lion Rampant focuses on bringing medieval combat to life on the tabletop, The Pikeman´s Lament helps you to refight battles in the Seventeenth Century (broadly 1611-1721, spanning conflicts such as the British Civil Wars, the Thirty Years War, and the Great Northern War)…"

We have to wait 'till 2017? Well, that gives one plenty of time to put together their forces!

Pike and skirmish doesn't seems to sounds like a good mix :)

2017? Egads….

Yes Kadrinazi, I can't imagine a pikeman taking up his primary weapon unless his unit was being mustered for a field battle or assigned to a breach in a defensive line. The sorts of minor operations the LR system is supposed to address would have mostly been the province of dragoons in this period.

In any case, the pike is a very poor individual weapon; mostly a hindrance and liability in a one-on-one fight. It really only comes into its own when massed, and I doubt that twelve men constitutes sufficient mass.

Something to look forward to in 2017!

Are they going to make rules for eastern european armies (i.e. polish-lithuanian commonwealth, muscovy, transylvania, moldavia and wallachia)?

That's what I was thinking. Perhaps scenario based games featuring Dragoons, Cavaliers and musketeers or some militia. It seems unlikely pikemen would be involved in this scale of skirmish.

The pikeman's lament(?): 'Oh, woe is me… left to sit and oil my pike again!

Maybe that's why it's lamentable. grin
