I am building a Saitic Egyptian DBA 3.0 army. The General element is a Heavy Chariot. I am using Black Tree Design miniatures, and despite the designation "heavy" in the catalog, their Egyptian chariots are all "light." So I am asking for suggestions of manufacturers of 28mm Egyptian Heavy Chariots, preferably with a Pharaoh, and preferably available in the USA. Thank you for any and all suggestions. |

Bear in mind that Black Tree's Egyptian range is basically New Kingdom Egyptian, so at least 500 years earlier than a Saitic army…. I'm not sure if anyone does a 28mm Saitic range – if looking to do a Saitic army I'd probably start by scouring Persian ranges for likely candidates…. |

Maybe the Irregular miniatures/Eureka Miniatures 4 horse Assyrian chariot? A fine model. I think they were under Assyrian influence. Colin will confirm, or not. :-) |

Ummm, depends on the part of the Saitic Egyptian period "look" you want. The heavy chariots were likely "Egyptianized" versions of the Assyrian/Babylonian 4-horse Heavies, with earlier versions and equipment probably more influenced by the former occupiers. That sounds to me like conversions, perhaps using 4 New Kingdom armored/barded horses drawing an Assyrian Chariot with an armored Egyptian/Saitic crew. Warlord, Foundry, and Old Glory do decent Assyrian Chariots, without excessively heavy wheels. However, given the need for 2 Egyptian chariot models, 1 Assyrian Chariot model, and extra crew for each vehicle, this could get pretty pricey |

@Dom, I had read somewhere (with possibly zero historical authenticity) the the Saitic period was a bit of a New Kingdom renasaince (sp?) so I decided to take that and run with it. @Ashurman and BigRedBat, thank you for the Assyrian suggestion :-) |

Having looked at pictures of Assyrian chariots, I believe I can reasonably scratch build one. They are very boxy. |

Here's picture of a chariot captured by the Assyrians at the siege of Lachish. Looks less boxy and may have twin poles.

I have this army in 15mm, sourced from Essex. Assuming it is a reasonable representation, and looking at my copy of Armies of the Ancient Near East, it looks okay, then a bit of scratch building is going to be required for a 28mm version.
It looks smaller than the Assyrian chariot, rectangular box like cab, perhaps covered in fabric, eight spoked wheels with the axle at the rear of the cab. Faience bead necklaces for the horses. Goodluck! |

@Tarentala and Twilight Samurai, thank you for the excellent references! |

Lovely painting on that chariot… If scratchbuilding, the Irregular wheels are very good and they sell them separately. |

Assyrian chariot probably best. Eureka, Irregular, Warlord. Crew see Eureka Egyptian marine in Persian range or old Vendel range. Pharaoh (single)Newline or Scarab. Not sure if blue crown still used at this time but would still seem reasonable. |
