Well we finally got together to try the "Warr Without an Enemie" rules this evening . . . and the general response was favorable. As with all rules we had to be careful about 'cross-gaming' because there are a number of differences from most rules . . . but what I liked most was the almost constant need to make choices. Generals start each turn with a number of command points (depending upon their quality and a die roll) . . . and there usually are more things you want to do than you have points to use, so you have to prioritize. Also you need to anticipate what your opponent might do and leave points for responses. We played the (suggested) re-fight of the Battle of Southam (August, 1642), which is a relatively simple "meeting engagement" type of scenario, which is included in the rules as well as on the Wyre Forest Wargames Club website: wfgamers.org.uk/WWAE.htm This is a rule set which we will definitely play again. -- Jeff

Looks great, sadly I sold off all my ECW figures. Perhaps one day I will game this era again. |

I recently purchased them myself. They are inspired by Forlorn Hope and Loose files and American scramble. I really think they are good and the suggested basing means you can also use your miniatures with Peter Pig's Regiment of Foote rules. |
