I just finished listening to the Audio book for this book. If you play any Dark Age stuff ( SAGA players, looking at you) this is a tremendously entertaining romp. Shieldwall combat, Danish Vikings, Welsh, Saxons, the whole shebang. Just fantastic.

I have been reading the series as well and have had a fun time with it. I also listened to the audio CDs a few years ago when traveling and they are particularly good.

Keep an eye out for the BBC adaptation, Lords of the North this Autumn, looks amazing!

I've read all 8 books and I enjoyed even more than the Sharpe series. The 9th book comes out in October this year.

Yep, been reading them for years. Caused me to buy viking figures. :)

Are they available in unabridged format? I really enjoy this series but dislike when unabridged leaves out all the details.

It's a great series but I can't help feeling it's gone on a bit too long…I enjoyed the earlier books but my interest has tailed off.

Great inspiration for Saga etc though.

I've read the books and listened to the audio. It was disappointing when on book five or so the narrator changed and they began to use modern place names instead of the Anglo Saxon.

I've really enjoyed the stories but I agree they do get a tad samey after a while.

I've read the first seven. I started out with Vikings, inspired by reading the sagas. Then I started wondering who I should buy to fight my Vikings. By the time I'd reached the third or fourth book, I decided to go for pretty much everybody! Actually, that got me to buy Saxons, Welsh, and Irish. They are a great read, and something else I'm planning to re-read when I retire.

Anything like Sharpe? Where a battle of thousands is portrayed by 20 people? (and I LIKED the Sharpe series!)

Just saw the first season on BBC America and was impressed. It has spurred me to finish up my Viking and Saxon figures…
