There is a moderate possibility that post retirement (end of 2016 if all goes as projected) or slightly later, we will be in Springfield, MO, for a period of time – several years or possibly more.

What are the hobby shops like? Any miniatures oriented? I always have the internet…

War game groups?

My interests would be Historical gaming (from the wide spread use of gunpowder – to be exact 1680 on) through the 1970s Cold War and (non-GW, no interest in any of that,) SF and Fantasy. Any hope of that existing there?

Meta Games Unlimited is in Springfield MO.

mguinc.com

PRO: It's a large store, run by very nice folks, and they've been in business for several years. They seem to be quite popular in town. The store has never been vacant the few times I have visited on weekends.

CON: The store is heavily into SciFi/Fantasy/Games Workshop and practically no historical gaming at all. So, it's EXACTLY what you are NOT interested in, right? Yep, me neither. grin

The last time I stopped by was more than a year ago. I seem to recall they may have had some Flames Of War merchandise. However, FOW is not what I game, and I didn't pay much attention. They also had a pretty well-stocked cabinet with paints and brushes. I think it was all GW stuff or perhaps Reaper -- I don't remember. I was looking for Vallejo at the time.

Springfield has Wilson's Creek Battlefield on the SW outskirts of town, and about two hours away in Arkansas is Pea Ridge Battlefield. One would think this area should have some ACW gaming groups, but I haven't found any yet.

Not too far down the road either direction you have historical gaming groups in Springdale AR (don't know the hobby store name but can find out from my friend if interested), Valhalla's Gate in Columbia MO, and Eclipse game store in Rolla MO.

SF and Fantasy fine, just not GW SF and Fantasy…
