[/URL] These are a mix of Foundry and Perry (I think) that I had painted up a good long time ago. I'm thinking of using these for Loyalist Militia at Kings Mountain. Would I be correct in assuming that Ferguson would have had better equipped militia troops and that they would have had some sort of training? Thus the bayonets, here? Remember, these were painted before the various washes and Army Painters came into being. I'm thinking that they look a little too clean and maybe a bit too pastel. Some "dirtyng up" may be in order. Figures painted by the very talented Mr. John Bryant Any thoughts? |

Bill do you mean the militia that were with Ferguson or the Provincial units? Loyalist militia would be in civvies by and large possibly with a field sign like a red cloth (see here) link Bear in mind that one opinion of the Loyalist militia in the South was " A Useless, Disorderly, Destructive Banditti" (cannot recall who said this – the Wickwires used it as a chapter heading in their bio of Cornwallis in the AWI). Part of Ferguson's job was to reform the Loylist militia but he never got chance. If you mean the detachments of the Provincial units – then more likely to be in cut down coat rather than the roundabout/postillion (which is really more a look for the Light Infantry in 1777 than anything else). There was a thread touching on Provincials at Kings Mountain before: TMP link Many of the detachments of the units at Kings Mountain seem to have been in red faced blue or perhaps green (Katcher's King George's Army or Chartrand's Loyalist Opsrey MAA will have full details). |

A nice-looking unit. I'd say leave them as originally painted, without the dirt. I like the bases too. Look like metal bases to work with magnetized storage boxes. How do you move the figures about the tabletop without bending all those bayonets? |

How do you move the figures about the tabletop without bending all those bayonets? I don't. I am not a wargamer. I just collect and display figures. |

"I am not a wargamer. I just collect and display figures." -- Well that's something we shall have to remedy, isn't it? |

It's always difficult to tell from photos, but I would tend towards the view that the pink is just a touch too "pastel" for faded red cloth – terracotta might be nearer the mark. |

Bren, The colors are off in these pictures. It's not pink, but a light grayish color. I'm going to try the Army Painter QS on these, just to dull down the colors. I'll ask Phil for help. "-- Well that's something we shall have to remedy, isn't it?" Never happen. I hate rules!! For me, all of the fun is in the research, gathering all the ingredients and finally doing the modelling. I have no desire to fog my brain with wargames rules. If I want to play a game, that's what X-Box 360 NHL 15 is for. On a side note DB, how is your boy? I hope he's returned for good and came home safe. Let me know. |

Very nice figures! It's a shame they aren't to see tabletop action. I'd still paint for fun and display, too, if I didn't game -- but I'd not paint whole units like this, I'd only be painting individual figures. Your dedication and tenacity is admirable! |
