Before I get started, I consider Star Wars to be fantasy, so….

Let me lay down a few criteria, which I am sure many will ignore.
1. The part must be of at least Best Supporting Actor level. More than one line of dialog. This disqualifies Sauron. Sorry.
2. He/she must be REALLY villainous, yet …. admirable in some Evil way.
3. Whatever. This is your choice. Who am I to tell you what to think?

My nominations.

James Earl Jones as Thulsa Doom on Conan the Barbarian. What a voice!

Christopher Lee as Saruman. Again the voice. I sense a pattern.

So. Evil. Charismatic. Important. Have at it.
Go ahead. Chew the scenery. Frighten the children.

James Earl Jones is high on the list

On a very different theme, David Bowie in Labyrinth – brings the idea of the sophisticated evil villain to a new level

While maybe not exactly a fantasy movie, Dustin Hoffman in Hook

dick garrison01 Aug 2015 8:42 a.m. PST

Jack Palance Voltan (Hawk the slayer), now there is a man who could chew the scenery!! he played a similar part Xenos in "Outlaw of Gor" too.

JimSelzer01 Aug 2015 9:21 a.m. PST

funny thing is James Earl Jones could easily win both fantasy and scifi catagories aka Vader and Doom again its the voice Alan Rickman as the Sheriff is a close second with Basil Rathbone (playing same role)is a good choice as well

Winston Smith01 Aug 2015 10:01 a.m. PST

There was a Gor movie????
Oh dear.

Prince Rupert of the Rhine01 Aug 2015 10:25 a.m. PST

Gollum…alright he is evil in a petty way (rather than a conqueror of the world type) and you kind of feel sorry for him but he is still a nasty little Bleeped text who likes strangling people in a serial killer way.

Tommy2001 Aug 2015 2:38 p.m. PST

Since the "fantasy" requirement seems to have been lifted, I'll nominate Jack Lemmon as Professor Fate.
