I have read two White Dwarf magazines in the last ten plus years – both issues that came out when Bretonnia got it's 6ed make-over in 2004. I have glanced at it a few times in the GW shop since but cannot say I have actually "read" it. I used to get it when it was an actual gaming magazine that had scenarios, rules and ideas for D&D, EPT, Traveller and many other RPGs. |

Nope. I bought every issue up to ~ number 50, then probably every other or every third up until the purge of all none GW games. Then I only bought it sporadically – usually if it had a free boardgame or similar, or articles on games I really liked – Spacefleet and Lord of the Rings Skirmish in particular. Then went down to once a year (christmas!) and then not even once a year. The weekly hobby news – never even seen it. |

Not after they became a GW-only publication. Fondly remember the first appearance of the barbarian class for AD&D. |

Not any more. I don't remember quite what year, but when the price jumpe over $4.95 USD I decided it just wasn't worth it any more. |

" An essential publication for every hobbyist, there is something for everyone, every week – guaranteed! " Have they even read their own magazine ?? The only reason I've bought some recently was that they were $1 USD each at a local store and then only for the pretty pictures. |

" An essential publication for every hobbyist, there is something for everyone, every week – guaranteed! " Publication period aside, that's a pretty tall order, even for a quality magazine covering a wide variety of periods and genres. Which didn't even apply to WD a quarter century ago. Now? I bought my first WD since (at least) the 240's to get a free Sigmarine. He will either lead a lonely life of quiet dignity, or may yet become some bizarre, Frankensteinian experiment. Time will tell. |

Not since 3rd ED 40K came out. The stupid rules drove me out and the prices will keep me there. I looked in one 5 years ago and its 98% adds no real content. |

I stopped after they started doing the weekly. I did not care for the new format. Visions is OK but I hate the size. The pictures are too small to really see the details on the minis. |

I had a subscription for years but it has probably been about 10 years since in lapsed. |

I did nearly every month before it changed to its current thin weekly format. It had battle reports back then and covered LOTR. WD now has little substance and is a mere shadow of its former glorious self. I only "read" it when my FLGS has an open store copy. Not so much reading it, mind you, as glancing at the pretty pictures of new 40K releases inside since there's really not much in the way of text to speak of. |

Not in many years. Last issue I recall reading had all metal minis in it. |

Nope, never even seen one in the flesh. Not sure why. Had plenty of wargaming/rpg mag subscriptions. Heard lots of good about it back in the day but no one seemed to carry it in store. |

My subscription ran out over a decade ago; I saw no reason to renew then. I was given the IG issue in 2009 by a friend but haven't read one since. |

Im in the same boat as 28mm Fanatik. I used to buy every issue then eventually got a subscription which I had for at least five or six years. They were good back then. They had nice terrain articles and conversion ideas and battle reports and fluff stories. Now it is nothing but a overpriced advert with no redeeming value. |

Had a subscription since about 1989 (and bought back issues from way before that) but then a year or so ago they started filling my subscription with some rubbish magazine called "Visions" or something that had nothing to read or inform in it. Just a collection of smallish photos. They turned the old White Dwarf concept into a weekly issue that you can't subscribe to, you can only pick up a copy by going to a GW Store. Picked up a few copies but was unimpressed by the content and the price had effectively doubled. Still cant get a subscription that delivers to my mailbox. Bought a few copies the last few Saturdays for my 11 year old during the launch phase of AoS but to be honest its still not much of a mag – mainly ads and pretty photos, not much real content, so we'll not be buying them regularly. Sad really, I have every issue from about #28 through to January 2014 when they killed it. (The numbering stopped at #391, July 2012). |

I very briefly peruse a page or two while waiting at the checkout of the local model store just to make sure it hasn't reverted to the regular gaming magazine it used to bed. In case you wonder about this, the answer is NOPE. |

Captain Oblivious | 29 Jul 2015 9:55 p.m. PST |
Really loved it back in the 80's and early 90's. Saved my allowance to buy it from the local hobby shop. Then tried it again in the late 90's, and only subscribed because of the low subscription price and bonuses given. Tried to resubscribe in the early 2000's and somehow wound up with a 2 year subscription running for 4. Did not renew, and now the only issues I have are those given away by local hobby store because they can't sell them. they get them as extras to try to sell, but nobody is picking them up locally so they give them away with a purchase. |

Do you read the "new" White Dwarf? Hmm, let me think Okay I thought about it for a second and the answer is… Hell no. GW killed White Dwarf just like they killed off WFB and so many other things. |
Weasel | 29 Jul 2015 11:18 p.m. PST |
I don't hate GW as much as a lot here but I find the magazine to not be terribly useful to me. I do miss it. Growing up, getting it each month was a big part of my gaming "upbringing". We'd all hang out, a few people would be painting 40K guys or playing Necromunda or Blood BOwl, people would be reading the magazine, listening to whatever we listened to in the mid 90's. |
nevinsrip | 29 Jul 2015 11:44 p.m. PST |
Not since they dropped LOTR content from thier pages. The awful Hobbit" doesn't count. |
IUsedToBeSomeone | 30 Jul 2015 1:51 a.m. PST |
No, Stopped reading it regularly around issue 100-120 and then only bought issue with LOTR content when I started playing that. Haven't bought an issue for years… Mike |
Giles the Zog | 30 Jul 2015 2:56 a.m. PST |
No. Like many other commenters, I regularly bought it through the mid-late 1980's, and even into the nineties, and then again got a subscription in the noughts…but then let it lapse as the quality went down after Paul Sawyer's departure. The current format does not interest me one jot. |
Yesthatphil | 30 Jul 2015 3:27 a.m. PST |
No and never did … I'd not even heard of it til someone mentioned liking it a few years back … Lol … he said he liked the way it was done in 'WD' … I thought he meant Wargame Developments – how wrong I was … Phil |

Not in many years. Rising cost and changes in GW product lines killed it for me. Have not seen the new White Dwarf. I don't believe my FLGS even carries it though they have a huge 40K section. |

Didn't know there was a new one. I still reread my old ones. |
The Beast Rampant | 30 Jul 2015 10:27 a.m. PST |
I don't know why they didn't either keep the old WD format, or produce their weekly version in a thinner, cheaper format, and charge, like, $2 USD for it. It's just a damned ad, anyway. Charge enough that the retailer gets a bit of money, with a bit deferring the printing cost to some extent. You'd probably sell a lot more, if even selling an ad makes any sense in the first place. And for that matter, why wouldn't they rename the WEEKLY Visions (or something better)? Why even drag the WD name along at all? Did they thing the complete neutering of a once-great mag was better than truly cancelling it altogether? Rhetorical question. |
20thmaine | 30 Jul 2015 11:51 a.m. PST |
The only thing that makes me sad about WD is that it was so good and so essential when it started. Great dungeons. Great D&D monsters (the Fiend Folio AD&D volume was drawn from WD monsters). And then…not so essential : and no-one ever filled the void. |
Axebreaker | 30 Jul 2015 11:55 a.m. PST |

Huscarle | 30 Jul 2015 12:47 p.m. PST |
It was a great gaming magazine when it 1st started & I have the 1st 40 issues or so, but I stopped once it became a GW only magazine. |
Mithmee | 30 Jul 2015 12:55 p.m. PST |
I don't know why they didn't either keep the old WD format Well first off that would mean paying individuals for their articles and they could not use it as Fanboy paid for advertisment. Yes there was a time when it was a great gaming magazine but those days are nearly two decades ago. |
Insomniac | 30 Jul 2015 1:46 p.m. PST |
I bought the Age of Sigmar White Dwarf (with the free miniature) and read it from cover to cover. There were rules, a small bit on painting… and then adverts from cover to cover hailing the 'awesome', 'amazing' and 'fantastic' nature of GW products. It was so sycophantic, I thought I was going to puke. I doubt I'll ever get another one unless there is something free that is worth getting with it :) |
Mithmee | 30 Jul 2015 5:22 p.m. PST |
and then adverts from cover to cover hailing the 'awesome', 'amazing' and 'fantastic' nature of GW products. It was so sycophantic Yup that is what White Dwarf is today. Paid for Advertisment that is not worth buying. |

I miss Thrud, but as with most others not actually bought an issue since the 80s |

I'm in the "not in a long time" camp. I devoured every issue for information about Space Marine (epic scale) and Space Hulk. Some of the Space Hulk articles came with new thick card floor tiles and scenarios. It may have been my last time subscribing, but there was once a special offer for a free standalone game. I can't remember if there were any choices but I got something about a Tyranid hive with no more than Space Marine scouts to explore it, unless you drew a card to discover a creaky old Space Marine (maybe terminator) of the Iron Fists chapter. Got it around here somewhere. |
