Hi yall,
This is my first post on the forums, so please bear with me.

I recently had an idea for an interesting and rather different Wargame. To the best of my knowledge, nothing really exists similar to this idea.

While most battles in scifi Wargaming are fought over cityscapes or forrests by teams of elite operators, what if battles were fought by operators in cyberspace instead?

I see the game being similar to existing Wargames in that it will use three dimensional terrain, but the way the terrain will interact with the combatants is entirely different.

For instance, the first idea I had was that the terrain is composed of a series of "cubes," each called "files." I see this as looking sort of like the terrain from Mantic's game, 'Deadzone.' Every file automatically 'updates' to a new location at the beginning of each turn. This means that each cube automatically and randomly changes position on the board. Players can spend their 'hacking points' to prevent the terrain from changing – for instance, in order to maintain an important piece of cover.

What are your thoughts? Do yall have any ideas? If this game actually takes off, I'll be sure to credit yall with your ideas.

Interesting if completely unrealistic. You will find several Cyber Wargames in "Dark Guest" available from the History of Wargaming project

I think Steve Johnson was working on some cyber games as well, back in the dark ages. And I know that CyberPunk--I think that was the title--by Greg Porter was an RPG that had some cyber gaming ideas, but that was 25 years ago and I'm not sure that game is even available anymore.

I've seen a Kickstarter for a game where the action is taking place in cyberspace, where you can actually "summon" terrain, etc.

I had an idea to do this in conjunction with Infinity replacing the current hacking rules, just having the action take place on a different table with a sped up turn series. So 1 turn on the IRL table would be 4 turns on the virtual table or something like that.

Bizarrely, the first volume was said not to include viruses.

Cyberpunk and Cybergeneration were both equipped with rules to fight in cyberspace, which was built over with a virtual GUI layer.

Physically changing position of "files" sounds like a chore at best if the intent is to use miniatures, other than bases or other similar tiles/counters. Adjacency of the areas could be changed randomly without a hassle but it would make it more difficult to determine "lines of sight" (more @ access routes).

If you haven't already. You need to read Neromancer by William Gibson. The man who actually coined the phrase "Cyberspace". It had some great telling of hacking on the Net.

Thanks for the input all. I'll certainly take a look at the book and games mentioned. As usual, Matakishi's stuff is amazing. I've gotten several more ideas. If I do indeed come up with a more detailed set of rules, would anyone be interested in playtesting them?
