I still don't think Quar are science fiction, but starting here. Closer to WW1 technology than WW2, but using WW2 rules. What a mix.

Anyway, here's a battle report. If anyone else is doing this, I'd like to know how you rated the vehicles.

Awesome!

The Cofty's have quite a bit of arty in their army, R.C.O Model 60 100mm howitzer's. 1 or 2 of those would have bolstered his defenses a bit and given him a fighting chance. Or allow him to call in air support, the crafty Cofty's do have a large flying corps available. Then there's always the Chyweethl light tractors, a few of them trying to out maneuver the Baeliog to get a side shot without getting fragged might spice things up a bit. I liked the AAR, and loved the Quar house. I think I'm going to use Bolt Action for my Quar games in the future and see how it works…first I need to get my forces painted though.

By the way, let me add a note about the two parts of this.

The Chain of Command rules are great in getting us to do more than line up on each side and start moving forward to shooting each other. We do end up in a firefight more often than I think we should, but we're learning the tactics. Between patrol phase, jump-off points, and command dice, we love both what is achievable and what you shouldn't just assume you can achieve.

The Quar are obviously not historical, but they have such a nice feel for it. There's a lot of community-made fluff (stories, pictures, "history") on the Zombiesmith forum, and some official stuff in the books. I mostly try to follow how they're supposed to be organized, though breaking a 10-quar squad into 3 teams and a leader just doesn't feel write, so I'll make up my own.

But the feel of the CoC rules and the Quar setting and figures have been a nice combination.

Yes, I expected him to take a gun. We have not worked out any flyer rules yet, and only have a Crusader kite at the moment.

I think maybe he could have taken a Chyweethl, I forget how many support points he had. But I'm definitely after some infantry anti-tractor capability.

I'm working on a second Quar house, by the way, and I think I like it even more than the first!

"But I'm definitely after some infantry anti-tractor capability."

There's always satchel charges and the Fidwog Grafaenk torpedo lance (the crusaders could have constructed copies for their own use, the filthy scum :)), assuming you have some cavalry. Of course your AT rifle idea is a good one.

Am building a 1940 British, German and Norwegian force (28mm)
The Ailthean Tank is a Panzer II or I depending.
The Sothwyr Armored Car is a Sdkfz221 or 222 or even in place of a Panzer I (same armor really).
A Baeliog, if I get one will be a Panzer IV or a Matilda II depending.
I use the HSG as an AT gun 37mm or 40mm.
I use the sniper rifle as an AT Rifle for both sides.
I use the Coftyran Sniper rifle as sniper rifles for both sides. I use the HMG as the MMG for both forces as you can swap heads.
For heavier artillery would use the Coftyran field gun as British 18lber or German 75mm IG.
The Crusader mortar team is the German 50mm, can also use this for the British, but I prefer the Trench Raider mortar for the British (Coftyrans). I use only one Ryshii for the NCO SMG MP40. I special ordered a whole bunch of Bogens for regular rifles Kar98s for the Germans to replace the Ryshii – will use these as Stg44s in late war games.
The Sapper figure can be used for Demo Charge and you can just assign one of the figs to be carrying AT grenades. Many of the Norwegians (Militia and Coftyrans or Kryst) have bottles to use as Molotovs. I made a FT figure with some green putty using a militia sniper.
There is a medic figure you can buy and my FO is a Squirrel Handler.
Really works well with the 1940 lists.
If I made a Polish force would use the explosive tipped lance cavalry for sure.
Will eventually build the Kryst into the 1940 French. Will modify the Standard into some kind of grenade launcher for the 5 man platoon HQ VB unit.

I'm using 15mm figures, so don't have quite the choice. They 28mm figs are stunning.

But I had not thought of using the pyk-pyk handler as FOO. Thanks! Do Coftyrans use pyk-pyks?

They do in my TO&E!
As I had most of my scenery in 28mm I went with the larger figs (15s weren't out anyway). You may want to do the CoC Big Battles in 15 or even IABSM. 'This Quars War'rules with the 'Spats and Pedrails' seem really suited for battalion sized actions – so a bonus for having a ton of smaller sized figs. Won't change my 28s though, you may feel the same about your 15s.

Oh, and try the '29 Let's Go!' Scenario book for your Quar. Very few tanks to worry about.

Redroom29 Jul 2015 6:17 p.m. PST

nice report, the Quar are some pretty cool little dudes

The Epic Gamer30 Jul 2015 6:13 a.m. PST

Good stuff Andy, the table looks great.

Thomas Nissvik31 Jul 2015 2:15 a.m. PST

If I fail my "Save versus Shiny Temptation"-roll and end up buying a ton of these, I'm blaming you, Andy!
Quar are sooo cool but I don't have space, time or money for another project.

Thomas, get them at 6mm, and play on placemats at the dining table. :) With one of those magnifiers in front of you so you can see who the officer is!

Brucka, your approach makes a lot of sense. I'll have to think about that.

Very nice terrain, models, etc. !!!! thumbs up Since all I do is 6mm, with the release of 6mm Quar, I'm tempted to make up a small force. To battle with my 6mm Sci-fi forces.
