In Chicago, they stopped replacing Al Capone's headstone after it was stolen numerous times, or at least that's what I've heard, so he now rests in an unmarked grave. My first thought was the same as Cyrus. |

A few years back in the New England states there were people stealing gravestones from the 1700's and using them for table tops! Eventually they got caught but many people didn't think the punishment fit the crime. |

Salonika, Greece, paved its sidewalks with the tombstones from the Jewish cemetery during the German occupation and left them there until about 1998. Amazed me that no one had any problem walking down the street over tombstones, with the names and dates clearly visible in Hebrew. |

Good grief. As has been said, my money would be on a Nazi fanboy. I always find it truly nauseating at La Cambes to see the sheer level of hero-worship that Wittmann's grave attracts – it's invariably piled high with tributes from Nazi fanboy websites with names like panzersRkewl.com and iluvnazikuntz.org |
