There are plenty of gunships in 15mm and 6mm but in 15mm (much more than 6mm) there are fewer options that I am aware of that allow one to deploy air mobile vehicles to start a game or bring reinforcement in on. You know, the Hueys of Vietnam fame, The follow on (?) Chinook, today's counterpart ( Blackhawk,) or the "next gen" versions. These are not Gunships but transports. Please point e towards Air mobile Transport VTOLS/Helicopters that 1) are not model kits (high breakable factor) 2) are 15/18mm compatible (reasonably) 3) Preferably metal but plastic would do, thanks. |

Not helos, but the Quinjet toys certainly work for air-mobile transport. There are four different variants of them now. |

Old Crow Models has an excellent dropship. |
Mute Bystander | 29 Jul 2015 5:45 p.m. PST |
Yes, but, maybe I am picking nits/bending bricks/splitting hairs here, the dropships – well, while excellently cool – are more "Spaceborne" Army/Marine seizing airfields, airheads, or beach heads, than "air mobile" [82nd airborne as opposed to 101st Air Mobile] in nature. link link link Versus link Futuristic air mobile forces might hark back to Air Assault Landing troops in part and today's air mobile light infantry in part. |

The Combat Wombat Chinese Assault Lander and Bullfrog look really good. link is very much what I was thinking about. However $27 USD plus shipping would mean only a few in 15mm (but how often would you be dropping a company on hte board?) link – also very nice looking Still looking at others but some real potential so far. Feel free to make more suggestions! |

May have miss read your post, but the Chinook is not replaced by the Blackhawk … The Blackhawk replaced the Huey … Regardless, for 6mm DRM makes an Assault Transport. That would be = a UH1 Huey or UH60 Blackhawk. They also make a Dropship … as does Old Crow … Some good links …[Being a (proud) former 101 Infantryman awarded both Air Assault & Airborne Wings … ] |

Legion 4, now I see how that might have mislead you, poor wording on my part. Should have said "… Counterpart to Huey…" my apologies. Thank you for your service! No where as exciting as your experiences I am sure – I spent 7 years, 3 months, 10 days as a USAF medic/Orthopedic Clinic Technician and several years as an USAR 90Romeo then 76Yankee before admitting my body could pass the annual physical but that honestly I wasn't capable of preforming adequately if the balloon went up and put 100% of my time into my civilian life. I am pretty good for 6mm right now (way too many GZG stuff ) but I will drop by DRM again (it has been a long while since I visited.) It is 15/18mm that are woefully "under-equipped" but since I finally have a decent amount of 15/18mm SF infantry it is time to start adding on the "force multipliers" indeed! |

Thank U ! I was with the 101, then 2ID and 197th Mech/18th ABN Corps,'79-'90. Plus a year as an Intel Officer in the Res, '91. So I had a well rounded military experience. And Thank U for your Service as well ! All I do is 6mm Sci-fi. So let me give you a quick list of some of the 6mm Sci-fi out there. You may just want to check out for the heck of it ! You can never have too much 6mm Sci-fi ! DRM, CinC/PFC Solar Empire Marine Line & Sci-fi range, Onslaught, MicroWorld, Trouble Maker Games, Angel Barracks, Brigade, Darkest Star, Old Crow, Days of Empire, OGRE, off the top of my head. |

What rules do you use, Legion 4? |
Mad Mecha Guy | 30 Jul 2015 11:22 a.m. PST |
GZG should be doing a VTOL that has interchangeable pods, one of which is open platform that holds one of his light tracked tanks. don't know sure when will be available, as he is processing the 30yrs offer orders. Regards MMG. |
Legion 4 | 30 Jul 2015 1:26 p.m. PST |
Tuscaloosa … we use a modified version of Epic:A/NetEpic … with some SM1 & a bit of SM2 thrown in. We "cherry-picked" what we like … and dump what we don't. We started with SM1 in '90 and have cherry-picked thru all the iterations of Epic … As well as looked/played around with Dirtside, Future War Commander, The Crucible, etc. … |
Mako11 | 30 Jul 2015 2:47 p.m. PST |
I see the Quinjets as being the equivalent of today's/yesterday's C-130, or Chinook. |
Gaz0045 | 30 Jul 2015 11:55 p.m. PST |
link A bit small perhaps, but these are 100 mm by 98 mm built, and a model kit! They are pretty tough kits, robust in general especially if you leave the gun pods etc off……….these look like 'assault craft' , big doors and compact design.Good value too. |

What about modifying Anigrand's X22, with its boxy body would not be difficult to enlarge the cargo section to hold a small AFV. anigrand.com/AA2002_X-22.htm |

Air Assault (Air Mobil) is more then likely the way the future will go, Airborne is still valid for the day but in the future as a stand alone unit would most likely not be able to hold their own, but as a combined unit Airborne quickly followed by Air Assault units would most likely be the wave of the future. Having being in both types of Units, both have their place and have their pros and cons Airborne pro, mass troops on the ground quickly the con limited supply lines limit support elements, for short periods of time, you have what you have until more help arrives Air Assault pro, mass troops on the ground quick redeployment, quicker resupply and vast amounts of fire power, con Massive support elements requiring large supply line to these elements. just my view point from a retired Airborne Paratrooper aka Human Lawn Dart Antenocitits Workshop is working on a ship that I think would fit your bill TMP link |
Legion 4 | 03 Aug 2015 9:34 a.m. PST |
Very true … It's good to have numerous capabilities. But insertion by choppers seems to be the choice in many cases. Of course smaller drops could/would be of some use by smaller Spec Ops type units. I don't think you'll ever see anything over a Bn drop if that. Like the RANGERs and elements of the 82d's drops in Panama '88. And IIRC, some SEALs dropped in too ? But again, still good to have a number of options. |
War Monkey | 03 Aug 2015 3:38 p.m. PST |
Agree small unit insertion still have it's use. In the future you could use a mass Airborne air drop of troops right onto an airport or airfield (500 foot combat jump, air time about 8 seconds and your on the ground ready to engage in combat) with supporting Air Assault units close behind with addition fire power. Closely followed by your heavier air transports landing on your newly captured airfield rolling off your AFV and Med Armor. This would take heavy training, a time table, communications and some luck. |
Legion 4 | 03 Aug 2015 4:16 p.m. PST |
Yep that is the way it would work. A Bn or two drops in on the airport/field. Secure the airhead, with Air Assault units close behind with a little more firepower. Secure the field/area/zone. Then land the heavier transports packing your light/med armor. All with a lot CAS before, during and after … I see we were trained in the same doctrine … |
War Monkey | 03 Aug 2015 8:29 p.m. PST |

It's designed to be around the same size as my Raven… I don't have it in hand yet (was just shipped to me by my 3d printer) but here is a picture of a raven with 15mm miniatures.
