Further playtesting of this ruleset can be found here link I have played several Napoleonic rule sets now and I can say this one is emerging as a real winner. John |

I remember your write up on Lasalle awhile back. Any comment on comparisons of the two since they both are lower tactical level rules? |

I remember your write up on Lasalle awhile back. Any comment on comparisons of the two since they both are lower tactical level rules? I have done write-ups on Lasalle, BP, FOG Napoleonic, Rank and File and Republic to Empire, all different. Of all the games I played I sort of liked Rank and File but there were some weaknesses in the Skirmish function and my fellow players just did not seem to like them. I like Lasalle, it is certainly one of the best written rule books out there and has very nice and simple mechanisms, but I found the command function a little weak and it is basically you move all your troops and I move all my troops. There is very little fog there, there is decision making but it is not on the fly. With GBCoC, you really have to make significant decisions each turn as your ability to do things varies with the command dice that are thrown. Movement is also variable so you may not make your charge that turn leaving yourself open to an easy countercharge the next turn. I find the game a lot of fun and very simple to play. John |

I find the game a lot of fun and very simple to play. Strong praise indeed. Sam Mustafa is the best writer of our current game designers. His rule books read like prose. Whereas Barker can design a good game but oh, that writing… |

As a definite fan of Darren Green's LFS III Rules set I am eagerly awaiting these rules. The Lardies definitely have a bold and interesting way of approaching their rules sets. Well developed Command & Control mechanisms are crucial to me in a napoleonic rules set. Which is the key reason I'm not at all interested in LaSalle – Sam was trying to achieve a different objective, which seems to have been achieved, but they don't interest me. This use of the innovations out of Chain of Command has great potential. |
