"The U.S. will be sending more Air Force personnel and aircraft to Turkey to combat ISIS but plans for a no-fly zone over the Syria-Turkey border remain on hold, Pentagon officials said Monday.

"We're holding ongoing consultations with the Turks," said Navy Capt. Jeff Davis, a Pentagon spokesman, but currently "we have no plans for imposition of a no-fly zone."

At a Pentagon briefing, Davis said that Defense Secretary Ashton Carter was reviewing the options that came with Turkey's surprise announcement last week permitting the U.S. to use the Air Force base at Incirlik, Turkey, for strikes against ISIS in Syria, but decisions were weeks away…"

So they abandoned the Kurds a second time after using them. A kind of habit.

Getting the Turks to finally allow them use of the bases is hard enough. Trying to establish a NFZ will probably torpedo this concession.

This afternoons BBC news tells us which way the winds blowing regarding the Kurds. From "Kurdish fighters against IS" a month ago, theyve now been downgraded to "Kurdish Militants". The future doesnt look good for them…

Other than Israel, the Kurds have been the most reliable ally over there and our administration has turned their backs on them. At some point, probably real soon, they are not going to be on our side.

The U.S. government has had a habit of abandoning its local allies post Korean War. This one, I predict, will cost us down the line.

I am very sorry to see the Kurds get screwed again. But everyone knew that the Turks were spoiling for this fight, and then some PKK cadre killed some Turkish police, to take revenge for the Turks not fighting Daesh hard enough. Stupid, stupid, suicidally stupid.

The only way the US could save the Kurds now is to go to war with Turkey. That will not happen in this lifetime. We could beat the Turkish army, but we couldn't win the war.

Happy for you my good friend!!! (smile)

Bad news for the Kurds… they not deserve that.

@zippyfusenet,
There are reports that those particular Turkish police were targeted because of their close co-operation with ISIS. In the broader scope of things, it probably still wasn't a wise move.
