That's interesting stuff thanks for posting it. I'm not sure that I would count the Crimean War as a Russian defeat more of a score draw all round bar the French from what I have read. Anyhow I digress. |

Hello Oh I do not understand your reasoning there. How do reach those conclusions – especially the 'bar the French' bit? Who do you think won the Crimean War? Regards |

I am afraid the system bleeped your name. Sorry about that. |

The Sardinians certainly got the most out of it by getting French support in Italy in 1859 The French put a lot into it and were probably the most competent army in the campaign The Ottoman empire extended it's life The British managed to implement army reforms some 10 years after the war ended Tsarist Russia started on the slippery slope to it's demise |

No worries Broglie. My thinking was that the British lost an army and so the case for army reform was made tho' as Shedman says it took ten years. The French had a good campaign so no damage done at home and prestige increased abroad hence bar the French. I'd overlooked the Sardinians but Shedman's right they did get the most out of it. The Ottomans struggled on with reputation somewhat unfairly battered. The Russians got modern rifles for their army and while their ambitions were thwarted did see off a rather large coalition of enemy states from their shores. I'd not thought of it as the begining of Tsarist decline. Perhaps that is so or maybe not. Anyhow that is what I meant by rating it a score draw. The winners were the French and Sardinians everyone else lost something. Just musing of course. |

I understand where you are coming from now OH. Thanks for responding. |

I ran the two words in your name together but it was still bleeped. Strange don't you think? Regards |

Happy to do so Broglie. I'm afraid my name is a naughty word word in some parts of the English speaking world and triggers the bleeper. OB works though. |

Will try OB the next time. Some ears must be very sensitive. Even my 90 year old mother uses that word sometimes. Regards |

I know, the bleeper is very sensitive. I want to ask a question about Scottish s for a Kilsyth game but no one will know what I'm enquiring about. |
