I just wanted to post a quick note that I've been out of the loop and will likely be offline until the 5th of August or so.

On the 18th of July I had a heart attack. After stabilizing me, I was sent down to the cardiac ICU for testing and surgery. The docs determined that I had a number of blood clots that formed and blocked 3 arteries, and have small clots in 1 to 3 others.

I've been scheduled for bypass surgery on Thusrday morning (30th) and will be in recovery here at the hospital until the 3rd or so. After that I'll be at home for a few weeks recuperating.

I hope to be back posting in a couple weeks.

I've already had some wonderful messages of support, and just wanted to let you all know what's going on.

See you all soon,

Tim Kindred

Yes be careful with your ticker please. My older brother died suddenly about two weeks ago from a heart attack. He was at Kendo practice and just dropped during a sparing match and was gone soon after they got him to the hospital.

Rest and recover sir. Glad you are still with us.

Had my heart attack on Easter Sunday of 1990. Look for some modifications to your life style, pay attention to the doctors, some medications maybe, but I followed up with another 4 years in the Army, 25 years ACW reenacting, and still gaming. In the words of that great American philosopher, Dirty Harry Callahan, "a man has got to know his limitations". Be positive. The worst is probably over. You will do well. Look forward to your return to TMP.

GROSSMAN29 Jul 2015 8:52 p.m. PST

I had a triple bypass and was down for about a month before I was back to 100%. I do not recommend it, but it saved my life.
Also you should research and be prepared for some changes in your mental state 3-6 months after the event.
Best of luck to you.
Mark

How's it going, Tim? Hope all is well.

TKindred Supporting Member of TMP14 Aug 2015 7:47 p.m. PST

So far, so good. I don't post much because I have some difficulty with typing. I have a pinched nerve (STILL!) in my right shoulder which causes some weakness in my right arm, along with difficulty using my 3 smaller fingers on the right hand. Thus it's two fingered assault typing for me!

Otherwise, there is surprisingly little pain with the incisions on my chest or left leg. I've been using Tylenol for all my pain needs. I was able to get out for a bit on Thursday and being outside helped my spirits greatly. My strength is returning, but I do have to be careful, as it takes 8 weeks for the sternum to repair itself.

The most frustrating part is that I can't paint until my hand and right arm heal up, which they will, but it is going rather slowly. Thus I read and research and force myself to NOT buy more minis to add to the lead pile. Sigh.

I great;ly appreciate all the kind words from folks through email and messages here. You all are swell, and a big reason why I like TMP so much.

But this is enough typing for now. I'll post something in a few days.

Great to here it went so well!

Bowman20 Aug 2015 8:26 a.m. PST

Just stumbled upon this thread today. Glad you are doing well, even though the convalescence never seems to go quick enough.

I did laugh when you said:

Thus I read and research and force myself to NOT buy more minis to add to the lead pile. Sigh.

Now that's a real wargamer.

Royal Marine24 Aug 2015 1:31 p.m. PST

Real wargamers would give in and buy the metal ;-) Don't worry about painting, just stick it in the pile of lead. Speedy recovery, slow painting schedules.

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP24 Aug 2015 1:48 p.m. PST

Just get better ! And to be cliché … Get well soon. We all know we can't cross over as long as we have minis to paint … At least … I hope so ! thumbs up

Syrinx025 Aug 2015 8:15 p.m. PST

Good to hear you are progressing well. Hope the right arm is back online quickly.
