On the 135th Anniversary of the Second Afghan War Battle of Maiwand I'm trying to get this LINK to a new post on my blog posted before the site shuts down for the night. It shows a Maiwand diorama made by the incredibly-talented Spanish miniatures painter who calls himself Oniria, which I was lucky enough to buy a few years ago…

Ah, well, missed the deadline.

So now I'm back to post the same link in the early AM of July 28th…

Happy Maiwand Day, Mad Guru! Was it really five years ago? I forgot the date as well. I wonder how my Maiwand Day T-shirt would go down here in politically correct San Francisco.
The diorama is amazing! As I looked through the photos on the artist's website, I was sure I was looking at 54mm figures so it was a real surprise when I came to the photo of his hand holding the diorama!

I've seen Angel's work over the years grow from strength to strength. He always produces absolutely brilliant work in 28mm.

This piece is certainly no exception!!

Darrell.

Thanks for the comments, guys.

Nick, my brother… man did you hit the nail on the head: very hard indeed to believe that was 5 years ago. Re: your question… I suggest you wear the shirt and report back on any/all results! Probably won't be that bad.

I heartily agree that Angel the painter and diorama builder does incredible work. The figures all began as Empress Zulu War British, which he customized with puttees, helmet covers, and various other detail conversions. I believe he had a friend sculpt "Bobby" the regimental mascot from scratch, when he couldn't find a commercially available 28mm dog he liked enough. I'm very glad I was able to buy it when I did. Sometimes I regret it's mounted on such a substantial presentation base, because if it wasn't I could lay it out on one of the "Maiwand Day" terrain boards… but then I come to my senses and remember it's a very beautiful and also IMHO powerfully evocative piece all by itself!
