First off a Big Thanks to all of you who have been ordering my galleys, and for the great feedback! I look forward to more pictures of your fleets in action!
This weekend I had the pleasure of delivering a large commission of 42 painted ships, crew, &c to a local patron. About half the ships were ones I've already had done the other were all new pieces.
When queried about taking the commission, I learned that my patron wanted the ships to run a game at the upcoming Pacificon gaming convention in September; this is the same convention I was scheduled to run a game- so I parlayed part of the deal to be we run the game together (thus allowing me to play with my toy ships and not have to paint up an extra 42 on top of what I need). Even a Venetian doge would be happy with that deal!
Another key part of getting this commission done was to have a lot of ships available for images in my upcoming rules and examples of painted ships for my Skull and Crown store.
For a scad more images turn your spurs towards my blog skullandcrown.blogspot.com and for ships of your own- skullncrown.com I remain, your most obd't shipwright Ths |

Beautiful. Normally I am not a fan of pristine, neat paint jobs, but those are perfect for this subject. |

Thomas, if you tell me those crosses etc are all hand-painted, I'm just going to put my paint and brushes away now…incredible, absolutely incredible. |

Minis Waterloo- Your brushes are safe! I hand painted exactly two ships in the early days as examples, then got smart and brought Jaye Wiley Designs on board to create flags, awnings, pennants and bulwark trim to go with the ships. The real gem in these (other than the not hand painting part) is that Jaye did these in a very "painterly" style as opposed to "realistic"- which helps them blend in perfectly with a painted model. Here's an example of a ship with a flag sheet.
This ship is using one flag set, with an example of a variant sheet. Lots of the sheets are totally mix and match so you can with a little bit of swapping, get great variety. Cheers Ths

Cor 42 ships! That is astonishing. They look super, too. Lucky patron! |

They do look great. In the process of trying to convince the Minster of Finance that we need to start a naval building program. Need to protect ourselves from invasion. Have not had much success yet. On a more serious note will you be putting up painting instructions? |

Big Red- Coming from the guy that painted more soliders than Rome probably had that is a compliment! Belisarius, I will be doing more step by step painting tutorials on my blog and probably as a free pdf- They are suprisingly easy to paint once you get the concept that laser cut stuff is like a kids color book. In fact, the etched laser cut lines actually pull in the paint on the edges making it easier to keep in the lines.
The rest is all the flags and awnings and bullworks. Cheers Ths |

Ths Thanks for the info. I was always good at staying in the lines with coloring books. |
