hi guys, With Ganesha Games` new "Galleys & Galleons", I feel like trying this out in a period that I like: The imjin war; Japan`s invasion of korea in thelate 1590s. unfortunately, I cannot seem to find miniatures of the ships of this conflict… namely the korean Panokseon and Goebuksseon (turtle ship), and their opposed japanese Atakebune (big) and sekibune (small). Does anyone know of a manufacturer who makes them? |

Scheltrum Miniatures in the UK makes Turtle ships (and other Asian ships) in both 15mm and 25mm. scheltrum.co.uk/index.html I wish someone made them in 1/1200th scale. |

A turtle ship in 1/1200 scale would be about 1 inch long. This subject probably needs at least 1/600 scale to do it justice, and probably 1/300 or larger would be better. You could probably modify these 1/300 junks from Grumpy's Miniatures into turtle ships:
- cut/grind off the awning at the stern and add a carapace out of putty (or make one and cast more in resin)
- add wire oars
- fashion that ladder-like stern structure out of styrene sheet and square-section rods
- cut the head off some fantasy dragon to mount on the bow.
Doesn't that sound easy? :-) - Ix |

I was thinking 1/600 would work well for these. I wish I was competent in 3D modelling, Shapeways could have been the answer. It's frustrating as I have a set if rules for this just about ready to go. |

Awww… I do have access to a medium resolution 3d printed. not very precise or smooth, but if used intelligently, can still produce nice things! I will think about it. I'll share my drawings if I ever go forward with that. thanks anyway guys. |

I'd be in for Asian ships too, up to even ships of the Treasure Fleet, both what was probably real and that which was probably fanciful. |

I am happy to stat any ships up if I am provided the information on how they handled and how they fought, but I am certainly no expert on eastern vessels. If any additional special rules are required, these might be created and provided through a supplement or an article n Talespinner. I can be contacted through my blog: link |
