OK the job did not pan out for upstate NY. However, I had a real promising interview for the Dallas, Texas Public Library system. So what is the gaming climate like in Dallas if things continue to go that well. The job hunt of course continues. |

it's fine, but you have to go to Texas to experience it. UGH! |

I'd like to hear more about the Ft. Worth scene, since I could well be moving there in a year or two. Not Dallas, but close-ish. |

I'm in North Richland Hills, which is pretty much in the middle of DFW. I'm a bit of a recluse, ergo all my solo gaming, so I may not be the most knowledgeable, but as far as I know the only real historical gaming is over on the Dallas side at Texas Toy Soldier, where they have a goodly amount of guys playing (mostly Flames of War and Bolt Action, though I took part in some IABSM a few years ago) show up, and they sell 15mm an 28mm. I know in the Mid-Cities area and Arlington there seems to be quite a bit of non-historical gaming going on at various comic book stores, but not much in the way of historical. Part of the problem is that this place is bigger than folks think; it takes me 45 minutes to an hour to get to Texas Toy Soldier (which is really why I don't hang out there), and I'm in the middle of DFW! And Texas beats the hell out of Ohio, and this is from someone born in Hamilton County Hospital! ;) V/R, Jack |

Lots of gaming in Dallas/Austin. Great hobby shops too. |

The DFW Irregulars seem to be very active. If you haven't visited Texas often, despite what others may think, we are a very diverse bunch here. We must be doing something right because companies keep relocating here from other states. If you meet someone who is unfriendly, it is probably a transplanted Yankee. hehe stevesfieldworks.blogspot.com |

DFW area has lots of gaming activity though it is somewhat fractured. Texas is a big state with some big personalities. You could start with the LSHM (Lone Star Historical Miniatures) site and yahoo group. There are San Antonio, Austin, Houston and DFW chapters. Several great conventions throughout the year as well as Twister Con in Oklahoma. In addition to Texas Toy Soldier in Dallas there is Area 51 in Grapevine. Some excellent gaming can also be found hosted in private homes with expansive game rooms. Seek and ye shall find. |

Hope none of that was directed at me; I admit I'm not all that knowledgeable of the gaming scene, was just throwing out my two cents, and I certainly wasn't trying to be unfriendly. Again, I'm a bit of a home-body, and was pointing out how big DFW is in terms of it meaning I don't get out that much due to the driving distances. I've heard San Antonio and Austin have very active scenes, but that's five hours' driving and three, respectively, and Oklahoma City is three hours also. I've never been to Area 51, I'll check it out, maybe today. Regarding the DFW Irregulars, do they game up here in DFW, or just down in Red Oak? V/R, Jack |

Living in Charlotte I am used to having to drive a bit to get to a gaming store as Charlotte has gotten pretty large in the last decade. It is one of the fastest growing cities in America. Thanks for the information gents. Of course nothing is set in stone but the initial interview went extremely well so I am expecting a call back. Of course I am trying to find a job a bit closer to home but I will go where the work is. |

Jack, I'm a bit reclusive myself I guess. I don't drive down to the Metromess often. However, just from what I have read I believe the Irregulars game in Red Oak. And to echo what you said, it is a long drive down 35 to either Austin or SA. |
