I assume X-wing and Armada are close enough that the WOTC miniatures are not closely compatible. So I will just happily use them for my 5150 gaming.

Not sure what you mean about X-Wing and Armada being "close enough." In quality, yes. I don't know about gameplay, as I only do X-Wing, but Armada gets good reviews. But as for scale, they're entirely different animals, and don't mix at all.
Not sure how WotC would mix with either. Probably not well…
