Hi, I'm new to TMP and would like to return to my days of gaming. Has anyone read these books and are they of any benefit? Just about any decent book about a specific battle should have maps with unit locations and descriptions of the units involved (although the strength info is sometimes not easily found). Suggested authors include John Michael Priest, Stephen Sears and Peter Cozzens just to name a few. |

+1 on the Maps of series…Savas Beatty did an excellent job bringing those to light. The Chickamauga one is especially good. I find the maps in the eastern battlers a bit lacking compared to Chickamauga. The Emerging Civil War series, and the History Press series are both very good, usually (but not always) filled with decent maps. One was written by a TMP member (on Pickett's Mill). Same TMPer has a series of scenario books. civilwarvirtualtours.com |

Another vote for the Maps of Chickamauga and also for Brad B's outstanding scenario books. |

This is THE book you want right here. Most useful book I have ever owned, bought it and sold it three times. link |

The Maps of books are great and hard to beat. They include Gettysburg, Antietam, Bull Run, Chickamauga and Bristoe I believe. If you are in to Gettysburg then Pfanz books are great and Martins 1st day is also very good. I also recommend Cozzens No better Place to Die, This Terrible Sound and Shipwreck of their Hopes. |

In the "Knight's Battles for Wargamers" series there are books for 1st Bull Run and Chancellorsville. You can find used copies pretty cheap on Amazon. |
