…Dress Uniform. "The sergeant major of the Army would like to make the "Ike jacket" part of the service's dress uniform. Sergeant Major of the Army Daniel A. Dailey "has suggested an optional 'Eisenhower jacket' to be added as a more appropriate indoor alternative to the black windbreaker jacket," according to a recent Army press release. Named after Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower, the short-waisted, slim-fitting jacket was standard issue in 1944…" Full article here link Amicalement Armand |

i've always liked the cut of the "Ike" jacket. Looks sharp when cut and fit properly. |

I admit that a "Windbreaker", isn't a good choice, but this shouldn't be a top priority for the CSMA… If the CSM of the Army (And the other CSM's) spent more time looking after the soldiers and making sure that the NCO's were doing there jobs, and making sure that they had adequate housing, and training, as well as trying to keep senior NCO's from playing BS games with the troops and their families; INSTEAD of spending their time once again 're-designing uniforms, and getting rigid about tattoos and uniforms on off-post wear, maybe things would get better for a lot of troops… Oh wait…that means that they would actually have to do their ing jobs…. |

Completely agree that too many senior people see their job as to suddenly promote their pet uniform project. Making an "Ike" jacket official won't do anything to promote military readiness. |

Murphy…..Could not agree with you more. Everyone….Had to wear the Eisenhower jacket and the trousers that went with it for two years in high school ROTC. The damn thing was given birth by Brit battle dress which abortion came out of war time cost cutting. Even the Germans adopted the style, again, not because it was a better uniform jacket but because it saved on material. The jacket rides up over your belt constantly. All of us hated the thing. Our officers were wearing WWII full skirted jackets with "pinks" and the peaked hat. We looked like bums and they looked sharp. |

Brit battle dress which abortion came out of war time cost cutting. It was designed before the war, and was the most advanced combat uniform of its day. The battledress trousers were worn at the height of your navel and the battledress blouse was belted by the 38 web gear, so riding up was proably less of an issue. |

Jeff Ewing…..My bad. "Ike" uniform was "walking out dress" and not intended for field dress which, as you correctly point out, battle dress was for just that. I start to mentally froth at the mouth at sight or sound of the "Ike" outfit or anything remotely resembling it. Uncomfortable and unsightly. If there had been loops inside the jacket waistband to attach to the trouser web belt the "riding up" issue would have been solved just as you point out the Brits did with Battle Dress. |

How can you say that Murphy? I attribute the US army's success in the Iraq invasion entirely to the morale boost from the troops being issued black berets! |
