Have you guys seen this new Periscope App the young set is googoo-gaga for lately? periscope.tv

Basically you use the camera on your phone to broadcast out video to other users. Sort of a live youtube video but easier to setup, just start the app and broadcast.

So, thinking positively want to see some thoughts about how gamers could possible use the app for hobby purposes. Maybe to remotely share their gaming sessions with friends and fellow gamers? Live broadcast from conventions? Maybe a live painting tutorial? A designer or game company hosting alive ques and answer session?

To show what a recon element might be seeing from a tabletop view; or provide players with limited intel on the enemy positions; or something along these lines.

Interesting app.

That's a good idea – I used to use an actual periscope but it was fragile and a bit fiddly to use…

Yes recon reports and decision/ orders with partial views.
For AaR might be fun too.

There is a facebook group for remote gaming similar to this idea. One person sets up the game and has a camera on the table and the others give orders – the host moves the pieces around.

Neat

I periscoped a game I was playing at HISTORICON actually. My WIFE, of all people, tuned in, and watched us run a chariot race at Historicon.

I thought that was pretty neat.

My wife would only do that if she was suffering from insomnia.

They were very common in 1/285 or 1/300 games back in the 1970s. We used them and small dentist like mirrors. While in the Army we used them at the simulation centers on both Fort Hood and Fort Riley. Since I was the S4 of the MI Bn, I had to count all of them for our annual inventory.

I'd be interested in how to use it to play miniature games with a friend at another location, state, country.

Quite probably Skype would be better ?,?

Marshal Amherst28 Jul 2015 10:47 a.m. PST

Good question. I think with Periscope you just install the app on a camera capable smart phone and you are all set. Can Skype broadcast video direct from the camera? Twitter bought up Periscope right away so maybe that is just their answer to Skype and Google Hangouts (which I know gamers use too)

Dynaman878929 Jul 2015 7:09 p.m. PST

Yes on Skype – if you make a skype call from a cell phone it can instantly show video with no fiddling around needed.
