A while back I sold off my 28 mm ECW collection. I regretted doing so but at the time needed the funds more than the minis. Things are better now and one thing I held on to was all the resin redoubts I had for scenarios where redoubts would be part of the battle field.

Because once I let go of a collection or period I tend not to go back and redo it I am now exploring what era/period I could use these redoubts? The construction of redoubts is pretty standard whether it is the Late Renaissance or the horse and musket era. And like most miniature war game players and collectors once you have a little of something you want to collect the entire thing.

As I stated I do not want to go back and try to re-collect the ECW. I am not sure I want to do another Pike and Shot era say like the Dutch Wars with England and France. So I suppose I am looking more at the Horse and Musket era for using these redoubts. If it were you what era/conflict and which manufactures would you recommend for said era/conflict. What conflicts made heavy use of redoubt works or where it was common. This could be an illuminating discussion.

Oh and one caveat I am not looking to purchase figures right now. I am job hunting just having finished my graduate degree, and working on Lion Rampant retinues and 15 mm Science Fiction right now. I am just beginning the investigative process as I do not want to let go of these really nice bits of war game terrain. I just currently do not have a use for them with my current collections.

Redoubts were used in every conflict up the advent of really effective artillery that made trenches more useful.

Redoubts and casines were used in the WSS and Great Northern War(especially the Russians), and Fontenoy in the WAS all saw the use of such works.

At the end of the Seven Years War redoubts were seen on some battlefields.

They appeared at Yorktown, where French and Americans each stormed a redoubt. It can make a good 'race' scenario, who captures their redoubt first.

Various French revolutionary and Napoleonic battlefields feature redoubts. Redoubts were fought over in the Crimea and the American Civil War. Also the South American War of the Triple Alliance (or Paraguayan War) and the 1879 War of the Pacific. There must have been some used in the Russo-Turkish War 1879 and the Russo-Japanese War.
