The y-straps & ammo pouches weren't tan colored they were olive-green.

Your album is coming up "private." You can change the order on PB. Tell it to arrange "oldest first." Nice work.

Thanks for the feedback jdginaz, I have done a bit of research and found examples of various colours. Ammo pouches seemed to have ranged from black, right through to washed out tan colours. I am no expert but it is good enough for me! All feedback is welcome and always will be. I know the effects of climate, conditions and also the starting colour of the equipment varied and the effects of wear and tear. I suppose like most things in life its personal choice, so forgive me if I have got it wrong. It wont be the first time and I'm pretty sure it wont be the last.

Not on jdginaz, politeness is a virtue. Olive green dye in Lybian environment/sun your lucky if its tan and not pale buff.
bracken like what your done very nice, Hans face is very expressive great work in that scale.
Cheers

Colors varied due to natural conditions-sun, dust, materials, dyes, bleach and wear and tear.

Very nice work.

Hey Russ,
As usual, your work is just excellent. And you're quite right about the effects of wear and tear on uniforms. Back in my soldiering days, morning formation would see us at our best for the day in garrison. Even if there were to be a special inspection that morning, the variations in the colors of our olive drab uniforms was a sight to behold. In the field, we had even more variety. There were no fewer that four different types of pistol belts; ammo pouches for M14 magazines, M16 20 round magazines (in two types), and M16 30 round magazines; some three different patterns of entrenching tools; at least two types of first aid pouches; I lost count of the different types of shoulder straps; plus a couple different types of canteen with covers. All this in 'the best equipped army in the world'. This was during the Carter administration. But the point still holds. Olive drab in more variations than the eye could faithfully register.

Basically it seems to be a tweed. Tweed has multiple color threads and it doesn't seem to be consistent. Grays, browns, greens all mix in to give each uniform a unique tone.

Well you can of course paint your figures anyway you want and I wouldn't say anything, but if your going post a tutorial I would thing you would wan to get it as right as possible.

I collected WWII memorabilia for several years with a emphasis on German equipment. I've seen & handled several sets of "tropical" web gear and seen pictures of dozens more and not one original set was anything but green, even the badly faded ones were still a pale green and defiantly not tan.

Thanks guys I appreciate all feedback and its always welcome.
jdginaz we have a difference of opinion on this one, I paint for the enjoyment of it, and my tutorials are as much about how I paint and create the effects that I do. I am sorry that my view of this hobby is different to yours and with that being the case I will end our discussion with an apology. Sorry guys if I misled you all in any way shape or form. My purpose and intent was to try and help! So forgive me for simply being human!

Thanks to everyone for commenting, good or bad its all very welcome. We learn by our mistakes and going forward I will think long and hard about any future tutorials.

Thanks again guys for all your help, support and kind words.
Cheers for now Russ

very nice looking figure thanks for the help with which paints to use

bracken Supporting Member of TMP23 Jul 2015 11:18 a.m. PST

Well I must admit things threw me yesterday, so now its back to business

Ben thank you for your assistance, like I said I can be a complete technophobe. I started using photobucket on my phone and crossing over to the laptop is taking some getting used to.

Joes shop, thank you for your support. It is very much appreciated, PM sent!

Zargon, thank you also, its nice to have support and encouragement from my fellow TMPers . It took a lot of hard work to improve the way I paint faces. The eyes can be a real SOB to get right but repainting is always an option! and that is something I still finding myself doing.

Robby, thank you also. Always a voice of reason, your advice is always warmly received and always welcome.

CombatPainter, I always welcome your input, your knowledge always impresses me and your work inspires me.

marcus arilius, thank you also . Your comment means I achieved the desired result. If I can help in any way then I am happy.

So thanks guys your words and support means a lot, you guys are my on line family and if your are happy to follow my tutorials then I am happy to continue to do them. I have in the past posted in the opening lines of my tutorials posts that I am no expert, not 100% accurate, and even good enough for my humble collection. So lesson learnt going forward.

thanks again and cheers for now
Russ

Thanks Russ,
your painting skills are obvious and this tutorial is going to be very useful. I downloaded them all, and I find all of them great

bracken Supporting Member of TMP24 Jul 2015 10:22 a.m. PST

Thanks Kungfucius, its always nice to hear that people find my tutorials of use. I did have doubts about doing any more but the support I have received has just being fantastic! It would be a shame to just give up. While people find them useful, and I enjoy doing them then I will continue to do so. Its only a small thing but its nice to give something back!
so keep looking and I will keep posting!
